EVIT LPN Program

Published

I am considering going into the EVIT LPN program for adults. I wanted to go to Gateway but it seems so sketchy (unorganized and info keeps changing) and I heard the wait was 1.5 years!

You need to have your CNA for the EVIT program first but the LPN program is starting soon. I just dont want to wait on the RN wait list for the next 2 years. I thought maybe getting my LPN would allow me to work while I wait to finish up my co-reqs and get into the associate RN program.

Has anyone had any experiences with this school? It seems a bit pricey but it is not so out of my budget. I just want to get some opinions because I have never heard anything about EVIT. Or if you just have an opinion on the route I am taking let me know. I appreciate your help! :bowingpur

I looked into them back in Sept, and they said that they only start the LPN program once a year, in August. Has it changed? Do they have a Jan start?

No, I just got the packet in the mail and the start date is Aug 09.

For the CNA at EVIT it says that you need Medical terminology. Which class do you need? I see that RIO has these classes but one is a 1 credit class and the other is 3 credits. Which do you need? Does RSAA require this course for their CNA?

If it is the same as the LPN program the med term courses they will accept are HCC 145 or HCC 146. The HCC 146 is a 2 credit course and is only 8 wks long at Rio. That is the one I signed up for starting 12/22.

RSAA does not require any pre-requisites for their program....other than $$$. :lol2:

So for EVIT's LPN pre-reqs we can take HCC 146 at Rio to cover that?

Also, how many spots are open for AUG 09 and when can you apply? Is it a first come/first serve basis. The sooner you apply the better chance you have at getting in?

What are some of the other pre-reqs that are time consuming?? (other then CNA)..

I downloaded a document from EVIT's website but it looks like it is for Senior High School students.

Are these the same requirements for Adults?

'B' or better on MC30 or HCC130 & HCC 145AA from MCC or equivalent academic course recommended 'B' or better on 1 (one) credit Biology or Anatomy/Physiology, 'C' or better on Algebra I & Algebra II, Chemistry concurrently at High School, highly recommended.

Must be 18 by January 30, 2009

Separate application required.

The requirements listed on the website are for HS students only. You have to call the school and speak to the advisor and she will tell you the requirements for the adult education. Yes, HCC 146 through Rio is AOK. I confirmed with the advisor I spoke with. If you call she will mail you the packet that lists all the pre-req's in detail, there are a bunch (CPR cert, 3 ref letters, vaccinations, CNA cert, HCC course, copy of HS diploma/college degree, etc. The application is due by 03/23/08. They were really nice and helpful when I called. If you are really wanting to do this program I would suggest calling and speaking to the directly. They will mail the packet out to you immediately. I got mine 2 days after my initial phone call. And if you email with further questions, they are immediate in their response.

Oh, I forgot, you also have to submit your NET scores.

Thanks!!!

I talked to one of the ladies this morning and she is sending out a packet.

Seems like a lot of little stuff but all very do-able. I just signed up for HCC 146 at RIO which starts 11/24.

I forgot to ask about how many spots there are for the Aug 09 start and what do they look at to determine if you get in. I assume it has to be competitive because they only have one start date per year.

I am going to e-mail them and ask!

Yeah, it is a lot of little things. The main ones are the med term and CNA that will take time to do. I didn't ask either about how many spots, etc. When I talked to her originally it didn't sound like a waiting list situation, but I Let me know what you find out.

Here is the scoop!

They are accepting 130 applications. Only 30 will get accepted. First they judge how complete your application packet is. Second they are looking at your NET scores.

So it seems like the top 30 NET scores get in.

Oh boy.. Is the NET hard?

Talk about pressure! It all sounded so easy, I knew it was too good to be true!

No, the NET is not difficult, it is basic math and reading comprehension. Did you get the study guide that is offered via the nursing website? If not, go to eriworld.com and order it. I also ordered a NET review book through Amazon.com. I took it in June and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I had studied the book like 6 months prior, as I had planned on taking it then, but was too scared to take it. Dumb, I know. I totally didn't study before I took and got in the high 70's on both parts. Not great, but not bad. I was thinking about retaking it and really studying up to get a better score in case I decided to apply to Banner. Now for SURE I am going to retake it!

Good luck if you are applying! Hopefully we will both be one of the lucky 30 chosen to start Aug 2009! :yeah:

Thanks for the info!

Hey my friend just sent me an e-mail saying that Gateway's program is only around $2900 and you need your NET, CNA, Finger print, CPR..

and too call for the packet in February and submit it in March. That's all I know about it, but it might be worth looking into if you haven't already.

I did look into it and from what I understand there is a yr and a 1/2 wait to get in. Maybe I will still try anyway.
