EVIT LPN program in Mesa, AZ

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

I have found some really old threads about EVIT here, but would like to hear from anyone who has recent experiences with them. I am thinking about taking 2013 to get myself ready by taking some community college classes for the couple of prereqs they have and then applying to start in early 2014 after my husband finishes his MBA. I am already a CNA and my current employer hires LPNs and will help me pay for school, so I am not really worried about being able to find a job after school.

I have heard there is some prejudice against this program. A nurse I work with and whose son did his LPN at EVIT told me that the Maricopa Community Colleges will not allow LPNs trained at EVIT to enter their RN program in the third block like they will for other LPNs. Honestly, what the heck, everyone has to pass the same NCLEX-PN, right?! It's approved by the BON isn't it?! Anyway, apparently private schools here will, just not the community colleges.

That's way down the road, though, as I plan to work for a year or two as an LPN before even considering more school. It could be longer than that, too, because my oldest child will start college right after I graduate if I get into the program in 2014.

The reasons I am considering this particular program are because of its schedule, which will allow me to attend classes while my kids are in school and still work as a CNA two night shifts a week, and because it's relatively quick, at 13 months in length. It might not be the cheapest way to go, but those two other attributes override that, as does the tuition assistance I can get from my employer.

So, any recent or current attendees wish to comment?

Also, alternatively, does anyone know if Chandler-Gilbert Community College offers any of its nursing programs at the Williams-Gateway Campus? I have scoured their website and been unable to determine that. They also have an LPN program. Gateway and Maricopa Skills Center have both ended theirs. :-(

We have been to Mesa Christian, Westchester, Springdale West, Restora Hospital, Mountain Vista Hospital for OB, we are going to go to Los Ninos next. To be honest with you, I do not believe Evit will be accepting any new students for the next program year. There has been a twist of events and new teachers that have changed my perspective of this school. State Board of Nursing had to come to our school and placed I believed 11 deficiencies against my school for the LPN Program. Unless they can fix those, which I believe will take some time, I do not believe they will be able to accept students again. This happened before at this school. We are basically teaching ourselves at this point. We are being tested on material that is on other chapters we have not yet read, answers on the test that are nowhere in the reading material, they are throwing out test questions after we complete, so making our scores lower if you had that question right because they didn't agree with the answer prior. The prior NCLEX pass rate for Evit's LPN program was 98%, at this rate, it will be much lower. The faculty has stated that we want our grades handed to us, and we have had them handed to us prior. I do not believe how rude the faculty has been to our class. There has been so much stress and crying because of this program. They have a meeting coming up with State Board and we are allowed to be present, which we will be. This program started out good and ever since the new teacher started making the tests, we have had nothing but trouble. OB is supposed to be the easiest class and its only 6 weeks, because LPN's can not work on an OB Floor. My prior teacher had stated that the State Board of Nursing was going to remove the OB section from the 2014 programs, due to not working in that area. My program at this school has gone to ****. I had loved this school and I am still trying my best since we have 39 class days of school. I made it this far, just need to keep on trucking. They should make fines for schools that cannot get it together.

I would like to update my posts now, as EVIT has moved forward to correct the Teacher issues and other program problems at the time. We now have a permanent teacher who is really sweet and promised us she is there to help us succeed and pass, as her teaching is a reflection of our test scores. I just love this teacher to pieces!! She is exactly what this school needed and I couldn't be more pleased to have her. I guess I cannot blame EVIT for the teacher quitting and one getting fired and the program being in LIMBO for awhile. Some of the head people who were in charge have been replaced and the school has gone back to normal. Prayers do work. 17 days til Graduation!!!!

I recently graduated from this school and now its another problem with them. One of the payments i made to the school is missing and my end of school balance to receive my certificate is incorrect around $700.00 now. This is really frustrating. The school is taking there time to respond to my complaint. The school sent me a 1098t with the correct amount i paid and now cause i complained they said they are sending me a corrected tax form with a lesser amount. They are pocketing my payment and now i have to go to my old bank and request my statements to sift through for the payment. I am beyond words with this school. I made a complaint to the Az attorney generals office and now i am going to the az board of education complaining process and irs for tax fraud since i made a payment and they are not reporting it. I am not the only student this happened to, the last class had issues as well. One of the students is suing the school. If you make a complaint against them they get hostile and try to screw you over. I just want my certificate and i am not paying one dime more than i owe. Please pick a different school and save yourself the headache.

Zoiks....I hadn't checked in on this thread in a long time. I guess I'm glad that whatever it was that held me back, did. I'm currently looking into the fast-track LPN at Gateway which costs about 1/5 what EVIT does. I guess any program can have unexpected issues, but that sounds just ridiculous!

The fast track lpn at gateway is a great program. My sister only had to wait a semester on the wait list because she chose the daytime classes. The night classes had a year to a year and a half wait list. The gateway program is very organized and sticks to the schedule if I had to say from my sister and 2 friends who attended.

Has anyone had any new info on this school?

Hello did you attend this school? IF so can you give me any recent updates? I'm debating if I should attend in August 2015

Did you start your program at EVIT? Do you recommend this school?
