Evidence Based Practice

Published

I am a brand new nursing student and one of my projects assigned over this semester is to write about an evidence based practice, with a presentation to follow. I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions. Because I am so new into the program, I'm not even sure what areas I would be interested in. (I am leaning towards anything neurological or maternity, but any ideas would be greatly appreciated!) Thanks! :specs:

Hi if you are interested in neuro, why not do stroke? The hospital i work at is stroke certified,so there are very strict protocols that must be followed, all of which have been backed by evidence based practice which are proven guidelines for handling a possible stroke. If you are interested feel free to contact me for assistance. amy

Here is a great is resource from the AHRQ. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ) mission is to improve the quality, safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of health care for all Americans. As 1 of 12 agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services, AHRQ supports research that helps people make more informed decisions and improves the quality of health care services.

The AHRQ is committed to improving care safety and quality by developing successful partnerships and generating the knowledge and tools required for long-term improvement. The central goal of our research is measurable improvements in health care in America, gauged in terms of improved quality of life and patient outcomes, lives saved, and value gained for what we spend.

To achieve its mission, the Agency is committed to organizational excellence and the use of efficient and responsive business processes to maximize the Agency's resources and the effectiveness of its programs. Our overall focus is:

  • Safety and quality: Reduce the risk of harm by promoting delivery of the best possible health care.
  • Effectiveness: Improve health care outcomes by encouraging the use of evidence to make informed health care decisions.
  • Efficiency: Transform research into practice to facilitate wider access to effective health care services and reduce unnecessary costs

They do this by evidenced based practice guidelines.....Health Care: Evidence-based Practice Subdirectory Page

Thank you for your input! Esme12, I had previously looked on the website you had sent, but I have some trouble changing the information into PICO questions.

& to Amy, I do like the idea of writing about strokes, I'm sure there is plenty info out there. I need to make up a question in which I compare one intervention with another, any suggestions?

Just a couple more suggestions: SIDS and evidence based practice or hand washing and alcohol based sanitizers and evidence based practice.
