Hello all,
I know there are already a couple of posts for this school, but reading through the threads I didn't get all the information that I was looking for and considering that they are pretty old threads I made a new one because I didn't think anyone would look at those anymore. I've already completed all my prereqs at a community college, but I don't want to wait around forever to get into the community college rn program.
Anyways, I wanted to find out for those who are already in the program or have the info. What kind of studying should I do for their entrance exam? What kind of stuff comes in the tests. I also would like to know the cost or estimated cost of the school. And how do they go about choosing the students for the program? What exactly is the application process?
I've already called the school, but the lady that answered the phone wasn't able to give me much info except for that info sessions are in August and the program starts up again in January.
And if you are already in the program, I would like to know how to do you find the teachers to be?? Would you say that this is a good academic choice??
Please help me as I live really far away from this school and I am moving out there just for the program. It is a little difficult for me to just drive over to visit the school. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
anybody gone through financial process?
if anyone did so, how much did you get pell grant?
i think actually i am eligible for full pell grant and they said so too
but yesterday my estimate went down 5500 to 3200.
some ppl say school takes the difference, if that is true that is crime, isnt it?
Hi jmira,
Wanted to ask how you like the program so far. I know every school has its pros and cons. Personally, I applied to several nursing programs. Two private non-profit religious BSN programs, two community college ADN programs, and the ADN program from Everest. I got accepted into the Jan 2012 cohort and finished my paper work today with *****
Let me share with you my experience of applying to all these schools. The private religious schools are WAY more selective in terms of grades and I do believe based on your faith even though they welcome all faiths..so they say. You need to have BOTH a high cumulative GPA and a high pre-requisite GPA. You were considered competitive if you were close to having a 4.0. If not, then you didn't stand a chance of getting accepted. I had a decent pre-req GPA of 3.5, but my overall cumulative sucks. Yes, I'll admit that my first bachelor's in business from a CSU was a detriment to me for these BSN programs.
One CC ADN program put me in their lottery since I didn't have enough points to make their cut for their point system (they select 75% of their applicants based off points and the other 25% thru a lottery) with 80 to 85 being the usual cut off on points. I wasn't picked from the lotto. The OTHER ADN said my application was INELIGIBLE since I failed to submit a transcript for an institution I never even went to, much less step foot on! Turns out the CSU I earned my B.S. sent this CC someone else's transcript!! Can you believe that?! I was not a happy camper. I let the CC that received my transcript as well as the CSU I graduated from that someone dropped the ball. The CSU I went to basically violated the other student's privacy records.
When I gave up hope of starting a program for January 2012, I finally got a call back from Everest to come in for an interview. I interviewed before Xmas, got a call back from *****less than a week later for FA, and got another call a week later from admissions that I got accepted.
Do you think the school will eventually get their NLNAC accreditation from what you're experienced so far?
How have the clinical experience been for you so far? Or if you're starting clinicals, have you heard any feedback from other cohorts (junior and senior classes)?
Look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you!
Nurseddd,
I've gone thru the FA process. However, I don't qualify for the grants because I already have a B.S. degree.
I'm not familiar with the fact that the institution takes the difference. Perhaps, it will help pay down another cost you were to incur such as next year's tuition or the cost of books. If they're not using your grants to help pay down your school expenses, they should return the money back to you for you to use as you see fit.
You should inquire why they would do such a thing with someone in financial aid. If your rep doesn't give you an answer you are satisfied with, ask to talk to the financial aid department manager with your concerns.
I know I set up my federal loans where if I have leftover funds from disbursement to return the said funds back to the federal loan people so I have less to pay back on.
Hope that makes sense. :)
hey, how did your fa process go?may i ask you how much could you pull out federal loan?
i need to get private loan.. do you have transferring courses?
Hi nurseddd,
Mine was relatively seamless. For this fiscal year 2011-2012, I'm able to get all of the federal loan funding that's allocated to a first year student at that school. I think it's $9500 ($3500 for subsidized and $6000 for unsubsidized).
What my federal loans do not cover will be paid in cash. That's what I did at another private school when financial aid didn't cover the full amount. I completed my science pre-reqs at the said private school because I didn't want to sit on wait-lists at community colleges for who knows how long. lol
I've taken out a loan before for another degree. So if you have any questions, I'll try my best to help answer them. :)
I'll be transferring a lot of general ed courses over. I'm taking nutrition, the computer course (I'm going to see if I can test out of it if possible), and that strategies class for the first quarter. The second quarter I'll be taking college algebra and sociology. I didn't take these five classes for my bachelor's degree in marketing. Instead of college algebra, the CSU I attended required marketing students to take an intro to statistics class. Instead of sociology, I took cultural anthropology instead. Back then, I didn't know I was going to do a complete career change from business/marketing to nursing. Then again, who knew the economy was going to tank as much as it has?
The rest of the time I'll be able to focus on the core nursing classes. What will you be taking for the first quarter? And on what days? Perhaps we'll be in a class or two together. :)
Flipracer88,I think I read one of your earlier posts in the thread. You mentioned your sister. Did she graduate from this program? If so, what were her thoughts on it?Nope cheers for getting in guys. I did pretty bad in the interview (interviewer had to correct me) wasn't even considered this time. Well good luck to you and hope to see u on the other side.
Actually that was my mistake it's actually my co-worker's wife that went through the program but it was before the name change to everest (Bryman). She said the coursework was pretty heavy but the teachers were understanding and actually headed some workshops so it was easier to put the infos together. If you've gone to traditional schools,u should find it similar except teachers seem to be more involved(teachers tend to talk to you one-on-one, instead of using e-mails)Flipracer88,I think I read one of your earlier posts in the thread. Then don't... This thread is only for people who want information on how to get in.. If u want to hate on this school then start your own thread and put all of your grievances down.. I guarantee you, nobody will even listen to you. As for your accusations, I know my sister will take great offense on how you bash this school.. Don't make accusations unless you have witness firsthand for yourself...
Honestly if u transfer all of your pre-reqs from college it would barely cost more than a program in community college about (12k more) and that's only community college, cal state Fullerton tuition is 26k which is only 6k less..
Now you tell me is paying 12k so u don't have to wait 3 years for a program in a job market that will probably be filled in a few years worth it?
-in an economy where most people are vying for medical jobs, absolutely!
