Everest College Ontario RN program

Published

Hello all,

I know there are already a couple of posts for this school, but reading through the threads I didn't get all the information that I was looking for and considering that they are pretty old threads I made a new one because I didn't think anyone would look at those anymore. I've already completed all my prereqs at a community college, but I don't want to wait around forever to get into the community college rn program.

Anyways, I wanted to find out for those who are already in the program or have the info. What kind of studying should I do for their entrance exam? What kind of stuff comes in the tests. I also would like to know the cost or estimated cost of the school. And how do they go about choosing the students for the program? What exactly is the application process?

I've already called the school, but the lady that answered the phone wasn't able to give me much info except for that info sessions are in August and the program starts up again in January.

And if you are already in the program, I would like to know how to do you find the teachers to be?? Would you say that this is a good academic choice??

Please help me as I live really far away from this school and I am moving out there just for the program. It is a little difficult for me to just drive over to visit the school. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

I didn't take nutrition here. I took it at a cc. I had most of my prereqs transferred in. I

just took strategies, american lit, and college algebra for my first two quarters. Yes, I am in my third quarter.

Does anyone know the the list of the prereqs that can transfer into the program?

Not sure if this helps anyone, but I was in the ER last week for my clinical and there were three Everest-Ontario Metro new grads working in there...and that's just in the ER. Reassuring, if you ask me. One ran up and gave my instructor a hug. Another day, I was in the NICU, and one of their nurses said we're very lucky to have ***** (a separate person from the previously mentioned) as our peds instructor because, not only is she one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, she also knows things a lot of people don't; she is incredibly smart. Last quarter, I heard this same instructor on the phone with a recent grad who received an offer from a hospital--she was the first person that came to mind when she received the offer. I, too, know that if I ever need advice or want to share a victory, she's just a phone call away...she's made that clear. If there's one thing I'm proud of here, it's that our instructors have great relationships with their students. Our professors are very well-educated, beyond supportive, and just flat out cool (with the exception of one who kinda scares the bejeezus outta me...although she's always been very sweet and kind to me). Maybe the school, as a for-profit institution, is out to get our money (rumor has it that's what "for-profit" means), but nothing or no one can put down what some of these people have done for me. I refuse to put a price on that.

On another note...

Did you know there's a loan forgiveness program for people who become nurses, teachers, firefighters, etc.? Well, there's a bill they're trying to pass that'll reduce the current full-time employment requirement for the current Public Service Loan Forgiveness program from 10 years to 5 years. That is HUGE! We'd only have to milk the system for half the time! LOL. There's no cap for current borrowers, but unfortunately, the cap would be set at $45K for new borrowers. Still better than nothing! Borrowers in default qualify.

Anyway, in a couple weeks I'll be in QTR 6 (of 8! Ahh!)...amazing--2011 just came and went! I still remember my first post on this thread...haha. If anybody has any questions on my experience, feel free to ask :nurse:

Jmira....hey friend!! Funny to be where we are now, eh?

Also, a few Everest grads were accepted into CSUSB's BSN program, so the CSU system is not outta the question...

Specializes in Surgery.

I am a recent graduate of Everest College and your right all instructors were very supportive except for one. Where did you do your ER clinical?

Hi :) We just finished our Maternal Child rotation at SACH, but it was my turn for ER that day. I really like it there...

I think I have a good idea of who that 1 instructor is! lol

I have to agree all of the instructors have been great. Some more than others? Yeah.

Its crazy how fast time flies.

The programs been tough, but I'm glad I'm on the path

I have a question, I have been an LVN for 4 years and I am looking into going to Everest, but the girl I spoke to said I have to wait for an info session in August to get info. Do you know if having your LVN already makes a difference in the length, cost, and admission process for the program? Any info would be very much appreciated!

Hi there,

I'm in my second quarter in the RN program @ Everest. I'll share with you my observations regarding your concerns. I sat at last August's information session and was accepted into the newest cohort that started January 2012.

I met a few LVNs in my cohort and it doesn't seem like their LVN license/experience made any difference in the length of the program. The number of classes you take will be affected depending on how many transfer units that Everest accepts. Classes like A&P 1 and 2, Microbiology, English Composition 1 and 2, and other GE requirements similar to other ADN programs help shorten the number of classes you take per 12-week quarter. One classmate of mine who's been an LVN for many years has been taking a full load of classes because she didn't take any pre-req classes beforehand. Whereas another LVN graduate I met said he only had to take a few of the GE classes at Everest because he was able to transfer in some classes he took previously at a community college. Most GE transfer classes don't have a time limit, but the science classes (A&P 1, A&P2, and Microbiology) do have a 5 year limit.

The overall cost of the program is short of $58K, but it will be lower depending on how many pre-reqs you transfer in. Once you're accepted into the program, financial aid and the nursing department help guide you to get a better idea how much your final cost of the program is.

As far as the admission process, you need to attend their information sessions in February (for a July or August start..it's one of those months..not sure which) and August (for a January start) in order to sign up for the HESI test appointment date. Show up on time to your HESI test. The day I took it, a potential candidate came 10 minutes late and she was DENIED in taking the test. And no, you can not reschedule your test date. No HESI, no chance of getting an interview with the nursing department. The best HESI scores are granted an interview. After the interview, the department reviews all the eligible candidates and selects 40 students for the next cohort.

Does anyone know if Everest accepts coursework from straighter line.com?

You do have to wait until august to start the process. Having your LVN will make zero difference in the admission process. Depending on what classes you are able to transfer in will definitely make a difference in the cost. There has only been 1 person enter in at the bridge point. This is because they can not guarantee a spot for you to enter in at the half way point. The groups of students can change from quarter to quarter, as in adding an extra student or 2 from the previous class who has to re-make a class, etc. There are lots of LVNs in the program but they start the program from the beginning (minus whatever classes they may be transferring in)

Also whatever science pre-reqs you are planning to transfer must have been taken with labs or else they will not accept the course. theres been quite a few LVNs who had to re-do their sciences because the ones they took in lvn school did not have labs as part of their cirriculum. This is because it is a BRN requirement that there are labs with the sciences.

I cant say specifically because Ive never heard of that school, but if you were able to transfer those classes to a community college then you have a decent chance of them transferring to everest. I had no problem transferring over some gen eds from the jc to everest.

Again, if your sciences did not have labs, you have zero chance of them transferring to everest. Hopefully your other gen eds would transfer, but that is something you would have to find out from the school directly as you started the admission process
