Has any nurse ever been on "temporary" disability?

Post your "story"-- whether it's got a "happy" ending or not. Thanks.

i injured my back lifting a patient and was out for 6 months. the first three months were miserable -- i couldn't walk and didn't know if i'd ever be able to walk again. i had the steroid injections into my back three times, and each time it just made things worse. finally, after three months of misery, i had surgery. the recovery was slow, but at least i knew i was getting better! went back to work christmas day, 2006 and was thrilled to do so. i had short term, medium term and long term (for 1 week) disability pay . . . never missed a paycheck. man was i lucky! i'm still working 3 12s a week, although not all in a row any more!

Whew, what a story. I'll email you to ask for some details. Thanks.

I was out of work due to medical reasons and applied for disability and was denied due to not having worked during the time period required. Had not worked because of the same reason I had just applied for. In my state, the worker is expected to save their income for those times when they can't work and the state doesn't care.

I'm scared to ask what state that is. I know I was lucky that I filed an incident report as soon as I knew I had an injury and that I was in the state I'm in!

I hope you are doing ok.

Thanks.

I never could see why they didn't go back to the period when I was working, for their decision, and never followed up on it because I was too sick to want to be bothered with dealing with bureaucratic bs. So, out sick, and no income. It will take me years of full time work to recoup my savings. Difficult to do when there are family members that rely on my income.

Sounds like it was almost set up that way to work in their favor! I'm sorry about your losses. Hope you have been able to work through your loss and stress. Thanks again for your information. :wink2:
