Could you please list your evening shift work hours? Also, at your work place is it hard to get an evening shift?

3-11:30 pm

But then again, psych hospitals around here tend to gravitate towards 8hr shifts for everyone.

Evening shift seems to be the easiest to get... everyone around here wants to work NOC or DAYS.

I think most evening shifts are 3-11:30 or a close approximation of that. More and more hospitals are going to 12 hour shifts, generally 7a-7p or 7p-7a. Some units, such as ER have variable shifts to cover peak hours. We have 1p-1a, 3p-3a, etc. I actually prefer evening shifts. They are easier to get than day positions, and have less interference from "admin" types.

Eves has always been and will always be my FAVORITE shift.

Evenings are 3-1130 p.m. I personally love it...but it's not very condusive with school-age kids and a hubby. I finally bit the bullet and went to day shift in November. I MISS PM's sooooooo BAD!!!! Anyway, they're not hard to get at my facility...as others have said, most people want days or nocs.

Good luck!

On our floor, we have the most holes on evening shift....you would get a job on eve's no problem!

I worked straight evenings for the first 6 monthis after I started...........the shift itself is fun!!! Go ...do your thing...tuck people in for the night...etc etc etc...

BUT.......I found it VERY demanding to be there during those hours, and to be there 5 days a week. I missed out on so much (socially that is)....and I would rarely get 2 days off in a row except on my every other weekend. I felt like on my "day" off, I'd be washing clothes and re stocking the refrig!!! :banghead:

I have since switched to 12 hour shifts and LOVE IT. I work 3 12's (11am-11pm so they keep that evening shift hole filled).....and an extra evening shift every other week to keep it a 40hr/week average......and now I am very heppy!!!!! :yeah: :)

Hope I didnt scare ya ;)

Oo! I love my evening shift! :1luvu: My hours (I don't work all the time; still in high school! ) are 2:30pm-10:30pm or 10:30pm-6:30pm on Fridays and 6:30pm-6:30am on weekends. When I hear all the stuff that goes on during days, I thank God that I'm nights! Last night me and my coworker chuckled at dayshift's terrible day -- it gave us a pretty quiet night! :chuckle

Nope, no problem getting nights at the nursing home I work at either. Everyone still wants to work days.

I work in LTC. I work on Tuesdays and Thursdays evening shift 3-11pm. I am still in college, so I work two days a week. I really thought I would hate evening shifts because I have 3 kids and a husband, but it actually works out well. Where I work it's not that hard to get evening shifts, or any shift for that matter. I think they are looking into hiring more PRN, that seems popular these days.
