Evaluating a job offer. What do you think? Should I wait or take it?

Published

PROS:

Tinge of public health

get to work w/ the underserved population.

multispecialty experience(OB/GYN,Pediatrics,Adult Medicine,Psychiatry)

More autonomy

feel it works well w/ my goals as a FNP or a MidWife

CONS:

Not a hospital job.

not sure if it can stand up to a med surg hospital experience should i decide i want to work in a hospital later.

no tuition reimbursement/stipends

seems like health benefit isn't the full coverage type.

pay is nothing compared to the relocation, buying a car and other expenses i'll have to incur.Low twenty'z

I have an interview lined up at a hospital in Jan.It will require me to relocate too but the med surg experience serves as a secure solace.I know it is going to be a long shot since i haven't even interviewed yet.I want to wait for it though .So, I have two options to compare but am not sure if holding out for that is going to be too long a wait if an offer is made from this job I've already interviewed for.

This type decision is so personal. For me, I would want the insurance and pay so that my life outside of work is more comfortable. But only you can decide the "worth" of the intangibles.

Low 20z (hourly - is that right?) seems low for someone with acute care experience to me. How is COL (Cost Of Living) where you're moving? - In, and out, of a hospital is OK in a robust nursing market but not super easy otherwise. How many years MS acute care now?

@ Jausman:Yes, that is an hourly rate.i am a new grad w/o any acute care experience. The job place is in upstate NY.Compared to where I will be moving from, it is going to be cheaper.

What part of the country?

Acute care is a good path. But sometimes that 'outside the hospital' experience can help next time you try the hospital. Employers often recognize you develop some critical thinking skills in your first clinical job (in or out of the hospital), you learn to adapt, gain confidence, hone skills.

Overall - IMO explore the other option & if you can easily hold off the "tinge of public" job, without compromising your chance to accept, after gaining all info, compare again.

Is this new job in a place you want to be? Have ties?- other motivations to be there?

You'll have to factor in location, because thats big for happiness.

I would love the public health aspect (underserved pops and such).. If it were me, I'd probably go with that..

The hospital job or the public health job are in upstate NY? Where in upstate? Just curious as I am also in that area--born and raised here so maybe I could be of help should you decide to move here or want to know about an employer.

LOL must be you are not here now. The snow maker has been on the fritz! lol Making multiple feet in the past week! I am so sick of shoveling. I guess you always want to live where you don't. lol I would love to live in California. My Fiance` is from there so we'll go back some day when she retires! --and as far as jobs for nurses.....more then Cali it sounds like from here but still not to many. I see like 3 ads in the paper each Friday! lol If you want to work in LTC--yeah theres a lot of jobs...even for new grads who want LTC.

I'm originally from Oswego- we moved to Houston when I was 6- I've missed it since. (I remember the mounds of snow- but I'm sure it's much different as an adult than a young child). What area are you in?
