European nurse seeking job in NYC - any job that requires a medical background!!!

Published

Specializes in Emergency room nursing.

I've been in the states since November 2011, I've exhausted all lists of jobs for medical assist jobs or physician assist jobs. I also applied as a medical receptionist.

I have 2 years experience as a nurse back in Malta (within the ER).

Unfortunately I'm still waiting on my approval by new york state to have my license issused, so in the meantime I'm studying but seriously need to find a job. Occasional babysitting jobs are not enough to keep to living in NYC!!!

Does anyone know of any practices, hospitals, clinics or whatever that would hire someone with medical background????

I would appreciate any help right now!!!

You are going to have to wait till that license comes through. Things are tight with the job market. You got LPN's, CNA or former now retired nurses doing medical secretary positions till things open up. So its tight for everyone. Keep pushing though. Have you thought about possibly volunteering? That way you might be able to get around some hiring managers once your license comes through as well as have a resume with american hospital work. Good Luck

Thanks for your reply. I in fact applied as a volunteer in an ER so I could even get myself acquainted with the environment here in the states.

I wish a big good luck to anyone that is in the same situation that I am, because it can be pretty frustrating at times!!!

happydreamer :)

Specializes in ER, PACU.

Its not a nursing job, but being that you are from out of the US and I'm assuming speak another language I'm sure you can land a job as a companion for an elderly person in Brooklyn.

I'm a little confused by your post. You applied for medical assistant jobs and physician assistant jobs? Do you know that for both of those jobs you need different requirements?

For a medical assistant you need a certification from a medical assistant program. Usually those are about 4 or 5 months long.

For physician assistant you need to have a college degree from a physician assistant program, which is a 4 year degree..
