We use the Neobar:

We used Duoderm under the tape to protect the baby's skin.

We still use tape, I think it's a cost issue for us. Do you like the neobar? How is it on the skin? How often do you need to replace it? Do you have many unplanned extubations with it's use?

We can tape using either a Y or an H, nurses preference, but we must double it. I prefer H's myself.

You should talk to your clinical specialist or nurse manager as to what your unit's guidlines are.

OMGosh, Nell! I was looking at ehat picture with the Neobar, and I thought the kid had tape on it's eyes!!! LOL!!!

I wish we would use the Neobar. I hate taping!

We use a neobar on the big chronic vents, but use these x-shaped holders on all others. They work great! We only tape ETT's when they are 2.0 ETs which don't have a premade holder. We try to get at least a 2.5 ETT in ASAP.

Not completely, but it does place it toward the one side or the other. We rotate sides when the tube holder needs changing. It comes off easily with adhesive remover. We apply it with mastisol skin prep after cleaning the mouth face.

Wow, I wonder what the cost issues are with unplanned extubations? - collapsed alveoli, traumatic reintubations, what else?

The neobar is great - you really have to work to accidentally extubate if the correct size neobar is properly applied.

Steve: I'm having trouble picturing how that x-thing works - it looks like the wing-thing has a place for the tube to be attached and the wings go on the cheeks? Where does the x go?
