Has anyone taken this course? It is the phase 1 portion, and phase 2 is a 12 week classroom course. Both are provided by the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Phase I is tough, but very interesting, and a passing grade is 80%, and no less. Also, I'm on a short time-line d/t I have to be finished by March 23rd in order to start phase 2 on April 23rd [started the first of January].

Anyway, just wanted to chat with anyone that has been there & done that, i.e. ECCO course.

Thanks!

LadyT618 - From 6/20 to 9/9 did you take both Phase I [online] & Phase II [classroom]?

Yes, they combined the 2 during this time.

I finished my 2nd attempt [77% on first attempt :( ] of Module Exam: Care of the Patient w/CV Disorders... 95% :w00t:

... funny thing is I've completed 37% of the course, yet I have seven more Modules to complete.

Well, at least the rest of the Modules will go by faster. Next up is Neurological Disorders of the Brain. Ya'll need to wish me luck & cheer me on, okay!

BEST OF LUCK!!! You'll do just fine!!!

BTW, have you taken the Phase II portion of this course, 12 week classroom setting? If so, what can you tell me about it?

TIA!

I don't know how they do yours, but mine was just X amount of weeks long (whatever 6/20 - 9/9 is) and is consisted of the 9 modules involved in ECCO. They didn't really break it down into Phases. We needed to accomplish a grade of 80 or better in each modular exam. How do they do yours?

I'm given 90 days to complete the Phase I online portion , which consist of 8 modules. All I know about the Phase II portion is its a 12 week classroom setting 5 days a week, from 0800 - 1700. I guess I'll have to wait until April 23rd, the first day of Phase II to get the scoop.

Ohh, well my ECCO was your phase I. After we finished ECCO, we started a 16-week preceptorship.....this was our phase II, I guess. They called ours semesters though. You gotta keep me posted as to what Phase 2 is.

Critical Care Nursing Course, 6F-F5 (Phase I & II)

Purpose: This course is designed to prepare Active/Reserve Component Army Nurse (AN) officers, Department of the Army Civilian (DAC) registered nurses (RNs), and international military nurses to function as entry-level critical care staff nurses. The Critical Care Course is taught in two phases: phase I (DL), Essential Elements of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO), and phase II, the 14 week resident course prepares nurses to function in TDA and TO&E critical care units or in any clinical setting which meets the environmental nursing standards for critical care nursing. Upon graduation the Army Nurse officer is assigned the AOC/SI classification of 66H8A.

Oh well now, your course is specifically designed for the GI in mind. Your phase II is only offered to Army personnel. ECCO itself IS the critical care course for most hospitals out here in civilian land. Well, I'm sure you'll ace the rest of the ECCO curriculum. The residency portion sounds like the clinical portion to me, to apply what you've learned in ECCO (perhaps, just a guess). Anyway, let me know how it goes. Are you making sure to do the CE exams so you can collect you CEU's? Make sure you do them as you go along, this way the info is fresh in your mind.

I am an old nurse returning to the ICU and am currently in ECCO class and loving it. I find it very thorough. My question for you is: Were you provided with a printed study guide of the content. I believe it is Brevard Community College in Florida that prints it and our hospital purchases it for all of us doing ECCO. It makes it easy so we are not writing all the time.

Nope, but I wish I did have a study guide.

I have now completed the CV [77% f/by 95%], Neuro [91%], and Renal [95%] Modules. I hope to take the Endocrine Module Exam NLT March 7th. The moving company will be at my home on the 8th to pack up, then the next day it goes on the big truck for the +2400 mile journey. However, I will be taking my PC with me, rather than have the movers take it & placing it in storage. Nevertheless, I'll not have PC access from March 8 - 14. I'm hoping it will be easier to finish the course up in WA for the two weeks before I report for active duty on April 3rd.
