Erwin LPN program

Published

Hi Everyone,

I'm due to start the LPN program at Erwin in Tampa. Does

anyone know if you have to take the NET test as part of the class?:)

Did anyone else get the letter in the mail stating the program is being extended from 12 to 14 months (the day program)? I emailed the advisor and she told me the only difference is the day will be a half hour shorter. I was hoping for a 4 day rather than 5 day week.

tpanative are you starting the program next week? I begin the program next week and I haven't heard or received any information about that....that's crazy! So, from what you were told the only difference is instead of classes being from 730-230 they will be from 730-200pm Monday -friday?

Booke the 2 extra months is for people starting the programs in '10, not this August. Evidently the instructors have been trying to get this addition for a while. I'm a bit upset, however, that it is remaining 5 days a week rather than cut to 4. Most LPN programs that i'm aware of are Mon-Thurs. I'm rethinking my acceptance.

Well, it might be better to extend the time because from what I hear it really is a fast paced program and it would give you time to learn and absorb all the info correctly! Think about it hard before forfeiting your acceptance...if that becomes an option because you really have a 'chosen' seat...many are looking to get and be where you are! I'm exctied but quite scared because it is so fast paced but, I will study long and hard to make sure I am learning and retaining That is the key!

I am 51 and been scared to death to take the TABE test I am ok with English and Science however scared of the math, how bad is it? I am currently taking billing and coding 2 nights a week trhough Erwin live in Lakeland

I am enjoying back at school my age..ANy hints math on the TABE and how hard is to get into?

You are going to do the TABE or the TEAS test as the TABE doesn't have science on it. THe TABE math was really easy but the TEAS math was a bit of a mind boggler...however, i would focus on the science preparation for the TEAS..that's what will get you in! I only studied about a week and a half and passed the TABE because we were only given 3 weeks to study it because we were the first nursing class to have to take it so...you can do it!

Thank you I bought the TABE and TEAS study books, it is just at my age 51 and being out of school and having used computers and calculators so much I am rusty, what type of science? I have my Aesthetican lisence and Basic Radiology Tech certification so I covered a lot of science there, just been a few years

Hi all! I am thinking of applying to Erwin and was wondering something...is there financial aid like the other schools have? They say no stafford loans? So how did you all pay for classes? Did you just do it quarterly? I was really hoping for a loan to help me just concentrate soley on my studies. Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Hello I am also new to this forum and looking for answers. I am applying to get into the program @ Erwin. I take my TEAS test in August and i'm really nervous. I would like to know how the classes are paid for as well, loans, payment plan, private grants? Also I started reading this forum from the beginning and see that last year people were being assigned to the March 2010 class, so is it safe to assume that if i'm applying to the march 2011 class that that's the one i'll be in? I don't mind waiting for the next class as long as it starts next year. Also i wanted to know from some of the students, did anyone have to quit their job to go to school? any students doing the balancing act between family and school? any single moms doing it and how difficult is it for you? I got into an RN program a few years back and had a very difficult instructor so it was very intimidating and i quit. I'm gonna go the LPN route now and see how that goes now that i'm a little better prepared about what to expect. I'm very excited about going at it again. I've grown bored with corporate america and I'm looking for a change. I hope that i will find a possible study buddy from this site as i see a few others have on the other forums! Happy nursing to you and hopefully i'll have good news to report at the end of this year. Also any news about how the placement process works now that there is no lottery for spaces in the program. keeping my fingers crossed for March 2011!!! :nurse:

I just graduated from Erwin in March and I have nothing but good things to say about it. To answer some of the questions they do offer financial aid and loans. I qualified for a full pell grant that covered all expenses. Other more expensive schools that I looked in to didn't allow financial aid to be used for books which I always thought was just crazy. I even received a refund check every quin (semester) for the remainder of the grant. That extra money every couple months really helped with my expenses. I'm also a single mom, my youngest child was 5 months when I started the program and my other children were 2 and 3 years old. There were students in my class that worked full time and still graduated. It's not easy but it can be done. I also just heard that out of my graduating class of 49 students, we started with 60 something, 45 have passed the boards so far. Good luck!!:D
