Hi Everyone,
I'm due to start the LPN program at Erwin in Tampa. Does
anyone know if you have to take the NET test as part of the class?:)
Interesting that the TEAS is now required. Mmm look they have provided a hint at some of the selection criteria. Looks like those of with college degrees should breath a little easier over those who don't.
How will the TEAS affect my admissions to the LPN Program?
The TEAS is just one of several components that make up the selection process. Other factors to be considered are initial TABE scores, possession of a U.S. college degree, and adherence to various application deadlines.
I agree, it just seems that the bar is being raised for all the nursing programs rn and lpn and that it is more competitive. I have been reading on the HCC acceptance thread here that people with 3.42gp were not accepted, just as alternates. Last semester and last fall, 3.19 gpa was good enough.
I am glad that I also applied to Erwin just incase. I HAVE to get all As in micro/lab and ap2 w lab to get over 3.5.
I am going to order the TEAS book so both my daughter and I can study.
Well, I am not sure how I feel about this. vocational schools were started for a reason. I always thought that it was a chance for students who were not 'college material' or who didnt want to go to college or who needed to train fast to earn a skill to make a decent wage had this route.
Now, it seems that it is going tomerge the route of the college programs regarding the nursing program. I am not sure how I feel about this. I think the solution is to createmore programs to meet the demand, not to stifle opportunites for the under masses.
I called the school and she said that Erwin had so many qualified applicants that they wouldn't be able to offer everyone a seat. I have a feeling that this is why the TEAS test was implemented.
True the vocational programs are there for a reason I can't disagree with you on that. On the other hand, you have schools like PHCC reducing the pre-reqs for the ASN program when applicants are at all time high levels. Anyone with half a brain can see right through what they are doing, which is pocketing application fees like it's gold when they know full well slots are extremely limited, AND that they will give preference to those who have support classes completed anyhow.
You can probably tell I don't trust establishments very much!
tpanative, I had no idea about what PHCC was doing. I checked out their site last year and I noticed that their required classes to apply weren't as much or as hard as HCC.
My sis attends the RN program at BC in south Florida, she feels the same way as you. She actually calculated $20 x 700 applicants =$14k and they only accepted about 225. They have it that you only need a 2.5 to apply but they know that they only really consider 3.10 and above and in her year, the cut off was 3.47. In this May class, for my other sis, the cut off was 3.1 and they had 500 applicants for about 120 spots. SCAM
So I took the TEAS test today. There were 4 sections. Reading comp., math, science, and basic English. The reading comp. and English were cake. The math and science, WOAH!!! I haven't done Algebra in 12 years. Decimals to fractions and vice versa..yeah right LOL. The science part wasn't that bad. In fact, some of the chemistry we learned (or re-learned) in AP1 came in handy. Never thought i'd see prokaryotic and eukaryotic again but I did. I'm going to say once they average in the sections I might score in the low 80s. I'll know in a couple days.
Hi, at least you have gotten that part over with. Did 58 people show up to take it? I was wondering if everyone who made it past the TABE test would show up to take the TEAS?
I agree that English and comp wouldn't be bad and that most would get stuck on definitely the science and then the math. I got a test for nursing school review book and the stuff that was in the Life/Physical science was a bit much especially if one haven't had chem or micor or bio/ap recently.
Here's hoping that you score enough to get a spot. I know that they hadn't determined what the minimum score was as they have never administered the test before.
Good luck
well, I am wondering if all 400 applicants took the TEAS. I would think that at least 10% would not take it. They still have not said what the appropriate score would be to be one of the 180 applicants selected.
I wonder if they will go by composite average score or just mainly focus on math, reading and comprehension. The science seems like it would weed out many people.

At the beginning there was approx. 560 applicants. Anyone not showing up at the initial orientation was cut. I doubt, however that many people noshowed. The economy is forcing a lot of people to go back to school (me included).

Well, she is presently attending HCC, however, she is trying to get into the LPN class at Erwin tech. She passed the TABe this month and now she has to wait until orientation in May to get the LPN packets, turn them in by June 10 and then wait to see what number she gets for the Lotto.
I just went to www.erwin.edu site and now I see that they want you to take the TEAS test as well. That never use to be a requirement and now, I am wondering if this is the prereq that the guidance counselor said would not be announced until orientation.
Regarding the med term class, I will also be taking this class. I see it as a benefit, when one is involved in the nursing classes, there will be many diagnoses etc terms that we may not be able to understand but if we understand the root word or prefix or suffix, it will help.
I am done with my prereqs so all i have is time. Regarding the LPN program, I was told by several students, that they give you lists of terms that you have to memorized and then they test you on them in LPN school. This way, she will be exposed to them.
AP1 does not expose you to all the terms. Perhaps with AP2, you have more terms/words in your orificenal but still not close to what you will learn in med term class. just my 2Cs.
