What is the best online course to prepare you for the CEN? Are there courses available to give you hands on training with equipment outside of what ACLS provides? Like assisting doctors with chest tube, Trach care, entubation care... Etc.....
I am making a lateral move from a non trauma to a trauma ER. They are going to provide 6-8 weeks orientation. Plus trauma cert. I have one month before I start orientation. I was thinking I could start studying for my CEN during that time. My current ED is very basic and our doctors are new. We are considered the "test" hospital for doctors. We don't have a cath lab, renal floor, etc.... Just one med-surge and one ICU. Plus OB. So most of our patients get shipped out to our sister hospital or our competitor. I been there for 2 yrs. I also have med-surge oncology experience.

I'm not sure about online course but I remember listening to a series of lectures when I took the first CEN. It was by a great instructor whose name escapes me now. Jeff something?? He is a well known lecturer and really great teacher. I'm sure someone here will know who I'm talking about.
Ok. I got it -- jeff solheim. Google it. I highly recommend him.

I am a Jeff Solheim fangirl, I love his CEN prep material! I second that suggestion. It's usually available through Med-Ed.
For hands-on stuff, TNCC is good. I think I just responded to you in the Trauma Nursing forum with the TNCC info.
Thanks alot!! I mostly want to completeCENto expand my knowledge. I think the hospital ia providing the trauma course.
Did studying for CEN improve your pe
rformance. In ed?

Yes. I think having a deeper understanding of all kinds if emergencies and not just the ones commonly seen in my ER was very helpful.
Clinically I gained more from the TNCC than CEN.

Check out Mark Boswell. He does 2 day live review courses and also has videos posted on YouTube. There is also Jeff Solheim (he has an online review through MedEd) and David Woodruff but he doesn't seem to be as popular as far as the CEN review goes.
