Hi everyone...
I am starting 120 hours of clinicals in the ER next week. I am in my last semester, so I have done plenty of clinicals already, but none in the ER. Can anyone give me some advice about what I could expect? I am really excited about this clinical, but would like to be a little prepared.
Thank you,
Kyle

ER was an option to do as a outside clinical for a day, and I really enjoyed it, the second time around. I thought I would hate it, but it ended up being my favorite area of interest. It's cool that you get to do it as hours for the last semester, we had to work on a med/surg or tele unit for about 180 hours, whew I am glad that's over.

Be ready for a totally different experience, and be willing to just go with the flow.
If you can adjust to operating with little info and changing priorities very frequently, you'll do just fine.
Hopefully you'll get lots of skills practice - IVs, foleys, respiratory treatments, etc.
Read up on your cardiac, respiratory, & GI/GU info & meds -- chest pain, shortness of breath & abdominal pain account for many ER visits.
Welcome to the ER: I hope you have a great experience!
