Starting a Business

Nurses Entrepreneurs

Published

Hello everyone. I've been reading your comments for a few hours today and decided I would join in. I have been an RN for nearly 30 years and have worked in many health settings. I didn't go to nursing school until after I was married and had 3 three children who were 7 mos., 3 and 6 at the time. It was tough but I was determined to be an RN. My husband helped me the most. My mother and in-laws were against me leaving my children at home and would not help me so I set out and found dependable women in my neighborhood and at church to help out with the children. I have worked in hospitals, extended care facilities, nursing homes, rehab. facilities, physician offices, adult day care, and clinical research. I am now thinking of starting my own business as a geriatric case manager/non-medical home care business, as the elderly are my favorite group of people. Are there any of you that are in business for yourself. I'd love to hear from you.

Ditto to what Boomer has said. I'm having trouble finding info on treating non-medical staff as independent contractors. I'd also like to hire nurses for private pay clts. I can't find info on paperwork they would need to keep etc. or if the business would need to be licensed. I know non-medical doesn't need to be licensed but what if I hire a nurse as an independent contractor? I've been a vn for 10 years and I also have clts offer to hire me privately. Is a license and all I need? Do I keep records of care? I'm used to mounds of paperwork at a medicare certified agency. Any info will be appreciated.
