Enteral feeding pumps

Published

In our NICU, we currently use medfusion pumps to deliver feedings over 30 minutes to 1 hour (the same pumps we use to deliver medications). Does anyone utilize medfusion pumps in this manner or do you use neonatal feeding pumps? If you use feeding pumps, what brand are you using and do you like them?

We use Kangaroo pumps

We also use the medfusion pumps for our feedings and medications. We do use different tubing though for our feedings and our meds. The tubing for the feeding is orange.

The vast majority of our feeds go on the syringe pumps as we use for meds. Occasionally we'll use Kangaroos for continuous feeds or large bolus feeds.

We use the medfusion pumps for feeds 60ml and less, anything over 60 goes on a kangaroo. We gravity feed a lot of our smaller kids.

Gravity for small bolus volumes, medfusions for volumes

We also have the enteral feeding set with the orange end that won't fit into a med line (to avoid errors). We use separate pumps labeled for meds and feeds; we don't use the same pump for cleanliness reasons and to avoid errors.

We use a new "enteral only" feeding system with syringes and extensions that only connect to the system and nothing else. But we use baxter syringe pumps to deliver
