Hello!! Finally I passed my CGFNS , IELTS and NCLEX with the California board...(ALL in one take only):) Now..I got a new problem...I have signed in an agency.. in Michigan becuase they claimed to be faster than California. Was my action ok ?/ I mean ..is there still a reciprocity there?? I have not yet been employed in California and of course this means that I still don't have a Social Security number.. Should I sign up and get a R.N> job first in a California or migrate first in that state before going to other state( Michigan)>?????
Or what must I do/? I have to change state because I really feel California processing is too slow( too late cause I took the NcLEX in that state already)...due to the experience I got with my ATT, eligibility and my sis who is there told me..their processing in almost all legal things are just slow...And the problem is I want to leave ( my country) fast...
By the way..
I am still here in the Philippines....working in the hospital...
Another thing...why is it that compared to other states. only California is the state that does not release an R.N. certificate unless we got a SSN?? in the caes of my other friends here... who took the Vermont and othe state board, they have their licenses already even if they are still in the Philippines....WHY? oh Why is California like this????
Could someone answer me please???

You are in a pickle, even though you have passed NCLEX, you actually do not hold a license yet to endorse. Calfiornia will not issue you a license without the SSN#. Many states actually do not issue you a license until you have a SSN#. They want to make sure that you can legally work in the US.
Your issue now is with immigration, not CA. As soon as you get your immigration documents processed and go down that road, you will get a SSN#, and then you can easily endorse to MI. The process can be started without you having the actual license in hand. The law only states that you need to have passed either CGFNS exam or the NCLEX plus the series of English exams. If the agency is telling you otherwise, then they are wrong.
All of the states are pretty close right now when it comes to processing, as there are only five centers in the US that do the processing.
Hope that you love snow. You will be seeing quite a bit of it.:)

Suzanne, I keep hearing that agencies can transfer you to another state (from CA) to work. I myself have a friend and her agency tells her that they can transfer her to Florida after she pass her NCLEX (CA BON). Is this really possible? (legal or not). Is it really happening? I hope its not a scam or a sweetener just to sign with them. Thanks.
There is no such thing as transfer, you would need to apply for endorsement to that state for licensure. It is an easy thing to do, once you actually hold a license. But if you go for initial licensure in CA or even Floriday, then it will take longer, because they do not issue you the hard copy unitl you have a SSN#, and you do not get that until immigration process is completed.
Again, your friend would have to be hired and immigration process completed to be able to endorse to Florida. Florida doesn't grant a hard license either, until the nurse has a SSN#.
Not sure what that recruiter was smoking, but as I keep saying, you do not transfer a lciense, You would just be getting another one. You would still have CA, then you could get Florida, or where ever.......

Will I have to be physically present in the US to get a social security number, after getting an immigrant visa?
Thanks!

Yes, you need to go to the office to apply for it. It only then takes a week or so and you will have it.
Thanks for all the help Suzanne!
