hi suzanne,am a foreign trained nurse living in pa with h4 visa.

which state will you recommend that i apply for nclex aside ca & ny if i want to forgo the cgfns?

am asking this because pa bon will verify your credentials again if you have a ca

lincense and i hear new york bon have a long list of people waiting.

i need your help

You still need to go thru the enitre Visa Screen process before you will be permitted to work. Just having the lciense doesn't give you the appropriste visa to work. You msut apply for a green card and receive it.............since you are already in the US, you can get an Adjustment of Status filed, and begin work 60 to 90 days later. But you are still going to need to go thru CGFNS for the Visa Screen Certificate and since you are already in the US, and no longer in your home country, NY is definitely the easiest. All of your documents will be obtained for you, you just need to sign the release.

NY doesn't have a long list waiting.................not sure where you are getting your info from. My opinion on the matter is NY and NY only in your case. There is no way that you can get aorund going thru CGFNS in one form or another. The CGFNS exam isn't required but most states require a credentials evaluation of some type.

A nursing license gives you a legal license to have the responsibilities of a nurse, but it doen't permit you to work as a nurse in the US if you are not a US citizen or hold a visa that permits you to work.

Since you are on an H-4 visa, you cannot work anywhere in the US with that visa. You must get a green card to be able to do that. The US Government requires that a foreign nurse who wishes to work in the US as a nurse, must hold a Visa Screen Certificate, in order to be able to get the visa that will permit them to work in the US. This is done by CGFNS.

So where you actualy go for licensure, really isn't the issue at this point. It is that you will be legally permitted to work in the US.

hi suzanne, i got to know that i ve passed the cgfns exams glory to God

now i dont need to go to ny or ca for my lincensure.my question

i will be able to register for my visa screen and pa bon next mth God's willing

i wrote my toefl exams last year and passed , so i dont have any problem with my english proficiency. pls i need your advice

Did you also do the TSE exam? That is required in addition to the TOEFL exam for the English requirement. Congrats on passing CGFNS............

during that time i wasnt asked for theTSE.

my results were forwarded to cgfns and in my cgfns accounts i have pass infront of my english requirements.

what is the diff between the toefl and tse, i did the computer based one.

can the tse beapplied alone.thanx once again

my question is,my lincense in my home country expires at the end of this month.

Recommend that you also renew license in home country until all credentials/visa cleared up in US.

Good luck on nursing in PA ---many avenues to choose!

TSE is the Test of Spoken English, it is actually a separate test from the TOEFL. It is required for the Visa Screen Certificate.

What you are talking about is the TWE, Test of Written English that includes the essays. It is part of the TOEFL exam, if you do the computerized version.

TOEFL, TWE, and TSE are required for the Visa Screen Certificate.

A Visa Screen Certificate is different from the CGFNS Certificate.

The CGFNS Certificate is given when you pass TOEFL and the CGFNS exam.

The Visa Screen Certificate requires passing either CGFNS exam or NCLEX, as well as having passed the series of English exams, either TOEFL, TSE, and TWE, or the IELTS series in the academic branch, with the speaking section.

Your CGFNS Certificate actually is no longer a useful certificate. In the past, it could be used for a temporary work permit as an RN in the US, but that no longer is the case. You must have a Visa Screen Certificate, especially since the temporary work permits are no longer being used. And if they were, they now require the full Visa Screen Certificate.
