Hello
I have just started my career as a LTC about a month ago. I came from a peds hospital. In the month I have been there, I have notice there is NO Teamwork among any of the staff:mad:. I would like to hear what you do at your place to encourage everyone to work together.
I would like to have a program in place to recognize staff that go above their job duties. What does your LTC do?

I know where you are coming from, littlerose. At my LTC we have some teamwork among certain groups of staff members but then there are staff members that don't work as a team, also. So at my facility, I wouldn't say that there was no teamwork, just a lack of teamwork every now and then. As for what to do to encourage teamwork--I believe it has to start from the top and move down. If they don't train the employees to work together and help each other they are not going to if they don't have to. Simple as that. Hope things change.

This sounds very familiar- certain people work better than others. The gossip in our place is unbelievable- and people lie in wait for others to make an error and then report them asap- others are afraid and intimidated by staff and some staff are so insubordinate it boggles the mind. It absolutely starts at the top and our top gossips too!!!
I am curious to see what others say- I have no problem with my staff because it is the graveyard shift and we work well together - everyone helps everyone but I have heard stories about day/evening shift that would curl your hair.
It is mostly put on the managers back to resolve issues otherwise we are accused of not doing our work properly and a bulletin goes up with our job description and a warning.

omg the gossip!! My facility is filled with it. I try and stay out of it, but its hard. At the end of the day its about the patients. Were they taken care of properly? Don't compromise your character by trying to become 'friends' with everyone. It will back fire.

I spent a couple of hours helping someone out today with entering readmit orders and got picked to pieces. I finally just said, "Fine. I won't enter orders for you again."

Jeesh.. I hate this!
Good advice .....also stay away from Facebook and adding co-workers to it- big mistake. Be friendly, help out as much as you can but make it known you won't allow them to cross the line with you.
I want to thank everyone for their inputs
