What is the salary of EMTs in Australia? do they hire EMTs from abroad?

What is an EMT? Never heard of it before and I have been nursing many, many years.

ahhh just looked it up on wikapedia.......paramedic, or ambulance officer, yes we do, different training to nursing, usual a diploma or nowadays need university degree or diploma plus post grad to become intensive paramedic.

Not on shortage lists for immigration purposes, different awards than nurses, have no idea what they earn.

paramedics in Australia are way more technical and advanced than EMTs in the UK or Ireland (that is where I am guessing you are from :) ) Paramedics have 3 or 4 year uni degrees or diplomas and can treat people far more than an EMT.

If you are looking for info try googleing QAS (Queensland ambulance service) Ambulance Victoria/ NSW etc. these kind of sites might point you in the right direction.

I'm guessing you're in the US. It is a totally different system here, as our population is so much smaller. It's not something you do while training to be something else over here, it's a more specialized career and needs specific education and training. You do get credit for some if you're an RN.

wrong guess. I'm actually from Asia. from The Philippines, specifically. thanks for the info by the way

Von, to work as EMT here in Australia, you have to be Australian trained. You will not be able to get sponsorship for work visa or permanent residency visa based on the qualifications you get from PSEMT in the Phils. as EMTs, ambulance officers and paramedics are not included in skilled occupations list shortage. If however you are entitled to live and work in Australia by any other pathway, like if you are a dependant of your spouse who is entitled to work and live in Australia, your prior learning as PN and training as EMT in the phils may be recognised and you can use that to gain entry as trainee paramedic in some places like NSW, they have a program that is akin to OJT and you will become a full pledged paramedic in at least 4 to 6 years of work and training. During the training period, you are paid at least 18AUD per hour. Depending on the state, training to be a paramedic ranges from getting a diploma (2years) to a bachelors in paramedic science (4years).The salary in this industry ranges from 18 to 35 AUD depending on qualifications and years of experience and the state you are working. I have friends from ERUF in Cebu who were working as paramedics for years, got their certificates from PSEMT and were able to find employment as paramedics in the Middle East and they get something like 40,000PhP per month tax free, with free accomodations. If you want to work in the Middle East, your EMT certificate along with EMT experience of at least two years, will get you qualified.

I know two people who did nursing solely to enhance their ambo careers - it can be pretty competitive!

Me too - a bunch of people in my ICU postgrad course did it so they could get credit when they applied for ambulance service.

There's a batch from the PSEMT that are deployed in australia and they're working there as EMT's. I think if you have the AREMT certificate you'll be able to get a job there especially if you have the other trainings like the ACLS, PHTLS or the ATLS.

Deployed? this must mean different a thing in different countries, we are not a war zone yet...and we are not in urgent need of patient transfer people due to any disaster and have called for international help.

In Victoria....nearly the smallest state, there are a couple of services that transport patients that are stable to hospitals in Melbourne, country to city and vice a versa for tests or imaging that cannot be seen to in some country hospitals.

Though to do this you must have a senior cert in first aide which includes I think all the acronyms you mentioned and the other person must be a RN, so I would question this more. these ambulance services are for someone that is unwell enough to need transport other than private. This answer refers to Victorian needs, but I am married to an Ambo so he is certain that EMT's from overseas need much more training than just a work visa or permanent residency to transport unwell people in all parts of Australia after all sometimes it may take many hours to get to your destination and his union would crack after all he has about 3 different degrees to do his job.

As for remote areas, I do not think the RFDS would employ anyone with this certificate from the Phillipines? or any other country without all qualifications same as Australian citizen.

Apparently you refer to a Queensland, Am ents, first aider type organisation that is trying to register all emts, bit of a rip off, what else needs to be registered..... never heard of it in Victoria, and it is volunteer, we have st John ambulance for sporting events etc.
