I was just reading through some other posts on this site (USA posts) about drug testing of Nurses being written into their employee contracts: at any time they can be "thrown the cup" as it is called, and have to give a urine sample. Is this the same for Canadian nurses? Is it a common thing to be told or enforced by your employer that at any time you can/will be randomly tested for drugs, etc? Very curious about this... Not that I am worried! *LOL* I am as clean as they come! :chuckle

I never had it happen in Canada, but did have to pee in a cup for my pre-employment physical in the US.

when hired i was told that they did random drug test....when new company came in they asked everyone to sign a paper agreeing to do a drug screen...only time i was ever tested when i had a needle stick and had to go to industrial medicine...i think they do everyone the first visit...no biggie for me but i know some people feel like it is an invasion of privacy

Never heard of it being done in Canada. Worked as a nurse for three employers and one other hospital as clerical.
