Emory University or Chamberlain College of Nursing?

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Currently in, a prospective student of, or heard about Chamberlain College of Nursing in Atlanta? Thought we could all start a thread.

I am almost rounding up my prerequisites at Gwinnett Technical College and looking forward to sending my application to Emory University in 2014. I have two prerequisites left for ADN Pre nursing, but I am considering Emory, which means I have to take some more classes (about 4). I have a B.Sc. in a non-nursing field (foreign university with a 3.9 GPA), currently pregnant with two kids (ages 2 & 1), my current GPA is 4.0, but I have a problem called "I am confused at the moment".

What is your take on Chamberlain? Is the Atlanta campus CCNE accredited? I have read how easy it is to apply and get admitted without the "waiting list" crisis, but I'm skeptical if one would get a job afterwards. Should I consider Chamberlain or go to Emory considering the hassles of gaining admission into Emory? Finally, I have no work experience and this is required at Emory University.

Thanks for taking out time to lead me on the path you think is best.

(It's my first time posting on all nurses ✌)

R u serious?!?! Chamberlain is not Even comparable !!! I'm just saying Emory is the best..

Heard about Chamberlain yesterday for the first time and decided to start a thread on it, but now I know what it is and what it is not.

Thanks, it's definitely incomparable. I was only considering its flexibility not quality.

Chamberlain has both regional and national accreditation, and has been around since the late 1800s (originally started as the Deaconess School of Nursing in Missouri). I did Chamberlain's RN-BSN program online, and it was fantastic. However, Chamberlain is very expensive, and nothing compares to Emory. :)

It's apparently incomparable, but the price is cheaper and its not difficult to get admitted into. The total estimated cost is about 70,000$ for 3 years while Emory is about 108,000$ for the BSN second degree program.

I called Chamberlain today and was told I could go ahead and complete their first year's curriculum at my college. This will help me reduce the tuition cost to about 44,000$ since they've not started offering the BSN 2nd Degree program in ATL location. And I was told the ATL campus will receive its CCNE accreditation in July 2014 after the first batch of graduates. It will also give me the ease of not working my butts off to maintain my 4.0 GPA.

However, I won't be applying until I'm sure the ATL location/campus is accredited since virtually all other chamberlain branches already have this accreditation.

All in all Emory is best, but I don't think I would like to owe that much for a Nursing degree. I would rather attend Emory for my MSN.

(I pray my sponsor buys this idea because he believes chamberlain is not yet known compared to Emory or other state universities.)

Why not just go to a state school? You have the grades to get into a good program. Chamberlain is not a great school...at least with Emory you're getting a top notch education, and their resources are unparalleled.

The cost of emory is killing me. I don't have a job neither do I have any working experience. My sponsor is not complaining and is ready to support me on whatever part I choose, but I just feel I could save him the cost.

Also he only supports GSU since this was the school he attended, but I haven't really heard great reviews about GSU nursing programs.

I thought Chamberlain is a great school since I hear most people talking about it these days.

I just thought of completing the most part of the chamberlain first year curriculum today to beat down the overall cost.

What do you think of GSU?

Would you go for it over chamberlain?

Also if one goes through the RN-BSN route in GSU will the person be required to take the TEAS V test?

Thanks.

Definitely. GSU has a great program. Not sure what led you to believe that Chamberlain is a prestigious school, it's not by a long shot.

If you have the grades. Any state school in Atlanta is better than chamberlain. Look in to kenneswas, Clayton, and Gsu. You might hear more about chamberlain because they advertise. Keep in mind they are a for profit school so there fit they advertise a lot while the others do not. .

Or other private schools. Like Mercer.

Thanks. Y'all are right. I believe it's coz of their unending advertisements. I actually heard about Chamberlain here on All Nurses and decided to figure out how to post a message and start a thread.

Thanks this forum is indeed a life saver.

I decided again now to complete my ADN at my current college Gwinnett tech, then immediately after receiving my Licensure I will enroll for the GSU rn to bsn program online because of the fear of being attacked by hoodlums on my way to school and paying 5$ for parking space whenever I attend classes. These are one of the reviews that scares the hell outta me in gsu (My husband said I'm wrong with these claims, but I read them in an online review, besides he attended the school about 8-10 years ago so I believe things must have changed from how it used to be then to what it is now).

Does this sound like a good idea? (ADN at GTC then RN to BSN at GSU

My fear is also the Teas test, I'm scared of taking it.

I am currently a student at Chamberlain and i honestly have nothing bad to say about it. My experience has been nothing but positive. Emory is an amazing school no doubt however I do not feel that a student at Emory is getting any better or an education than I am. I have heard on here some ppl say that chamberlain is an easy school which is the biggest load of crap i have ever heard..in my opinion there is no such thing as an easy nursing program. I already have a degree in biology which at the time i thought that was hard...but this does not even compare. I make really good grades but i study for at least 4-5 hrs everyday. The ppl who came in with the this is going to be easy attitude are no long at the school bc they flunked out.

As far as accreditation chamberlain is CCNE accredited. i have no doubt that i will have any problems passing my NCLEX. We have to take HESI finals in most of our classes, which research shows that if you make a 900 or above on ur HESI you have a 98% chance of passing the NCLEX on the first time. We just finished finals yesterday and the average of all the students HESI was 1057 which is pretty amazing. And I got an perfect score on one of them and only missed one question on the other. I think there was 27 ppl with perfect scores. So obviously we are learning something. Both schools are amazing so be sure to do your research to see which one suits you best...good luck

Thanks for the clarification Bella234.

If I may ask, are you guys required to take the HESI test at the end of each semester, year, or before gaining entrance or acceptance into chamberlain?

Congratulations on your scores.

Thanks a bunch.
