EMLA Cream with Circs

Hi,

Does anyone have a policy for EMLA cream with circumcisions? I hear that Joint Commission does not accept sweeties as a form of pain control. They want to see EMLA cream or a block used. Some of our Doctors do not do the block rather Hurricaine Spray.

I am apalled. If they're going to surgically remove healthy tissue, at least give them Lidocaine!!! How cruel!

crissrn27, bravo to you! I circed my oldest and chose the better the next time and I only wish I had known more for my oldest. I do not plan on assisting in any circumcisions because of my beliefs about it. http://nurses.cirp.org/#Picture
