I have written a few threads about rn vs lpn...and as a current cna working in a big hospital, My gut is leaning towards the lpn.
I have been a cna/pct/phlebotomist for 1.5 yrs. I am about to get married next month and I am thinking about a shorter school route at this point. I was always scared to go into the lpn program because I always hear that they aren't used anymore and I don't want to work in a ltc.
I wanted to get my bsn...but its so insainly competative it makes me ill
So question...is there such a thing of an emergency lpn? I would like to take extra critical care certs when I receive my lpn..if I officially go that route :3
Thanks in advance!!! :)

Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, no there really aren't emergency LPNs.

Yeah...emergency LPNs are utilized as ED techs; in my area, it's usually EMTs/paramedics that are hired first.
I would research your area in terms of if they hire LPNs in the ED; otherwise, your best bet is to keep going for the gold-the BSN.

As the other say, if you want to do ER go with the BSN.
LPNs arent even considered inpatient anymore in california.

And as far as I know, there are no certifications for LPNs in emergency nursing. CEN and CPEN are RN-only designations.

Congratulations on the impending nuptials! Since you work in a hospital, could you go to the ER there and pick some other employees' brains about this? People are usually happy to help out if you aspire to be like them (as long as they don't perceive you as a threat to THEIR jobs, of course). Also, consider talking to HR - maybe there are avenues you haven't even considered. If they get to know you as an eager person you'll have a major foot-in-the-door there. Network, baby!.
Good luck!
