Elmhurst Master's Entry in Nursing Practice MENP Fall 2022

Published

Hello all,

I haven't seen a chat started for Elmhurst's MENP Fall 2022 applicants. Just reaching out to any of you out there, so we can lean on each other for support ?

Also, I've recently been extended an invitation. The email said it would be a 30 minute Zoom call -- which is expected, but they also said that there would be a 30 minute writing portion in which I would have to provide a writing sample on the spot. That part completely caught me off guard. Does anybody know what this writing portion is all about? I've never heard of any other program doing anything like that.

Hi!

I had my interview in mid December and received my acceptance the first week of January.

I don't think you need to be worried about the writing portion. Assuming it's the same, they sent me something to read a few weeks before the interview and they sent the writing prompt the morning of the interview (even though they said they wouldn't send it until after the interview portion). As long as you've read the document they send you, it should be fine! It was like 3 paragraphs of writing so I don't think they expect a huge essay or anything since you only have 30 minutes (again, they said 30 minutes in the email, but at the end of the interview, they just asked to email it to them by the end of the day - I still sent it in 30 min to be safe).

The interview itself was also fine, they're all very nice. It was pretty short, they only ask a few set questions (strength and weakness,  why nursing, about your support system, one word to describe yourself, etc) and some conversation in between.

Good luck!

Congrats on getting in! Are you going to accept it? Or are there other schools you’re shooting for?

thank you for the writing portion insight! I was caught off guard by it as it’s the only program I’ve applied to that does that.

Yes, I accepted! Elmhurst was my first choice ?

When I first read this I thought, when did Elmhurst start a Nurse Practitioner program? I think the title is very misleading. I have never seen a program tag  that touts an advanced entry  program as a MENP that ends up awarding a degree as a CNL. --- the NP implying 'Nurse Practitioner'.

I'm not sure if there are more, but DePaul also uses the MENP title for masters entry in nursing practice. Every school seems to call it something different though.

Elmhurst did start a DNP program this year too.

I am more  familiar with the DNP meaning "Doctor of Nursing Practice" versus an MENP meaning "Master's Entry to Nursing Practice".  Guess I am not  up "on the latest" abbreviations.  I looked up some common programs and they call it "Direct Entry to Nurse Practitioner".

If you click the link to Elmhurst's site for the program https://www.elmhurst.edu/academics/departments/nursing/programs/masters-entry-nursing-practice/? they title their program with the "MENP" acronym.

Sorry for the confusion! I know there's tons of title variations out there it's hard to differentiate.

I was recently admitted to Elmhurst but I am still weighing in my options because I also applied to programs at UIC, DePaul, and Rush. Anyone have some insight on the program at Elmhurst? Or know how it may compare to a program in the city?

Sorry I don't have any specific insights into the programs, but one thing to consider is if the CNL certification is important to you. I'm not positive, but I believe only the Elmhurst and Rush programs offer the CNL certification and not UIC or DePaul.

I've also heard that you're pretty much guaranteed a job at Rush after graduation from the program so if you're really interested in working there, that'd be another thing to consider (assuming you're also admitted there).

I am still waiting to hear back from Rush and UIC but the CNL certifications at Rush and Elmhurst did catch my eye. Financial aid is also going to play a big role in where I decide to go so I'm also just waiting on viewing my financial aid package. Thanks for the reply! Congrats on your acceptance!

Has anyone heard back from Elmhurst for the MENP for fall 2022??
