congratulations! to everyone that is starting in january!

i'm so excited to meet everyone-please introduce yourself!

:groupwelcome:

Specializes in ER.

Well, for those who haven't seen me, I was 99 pounds when I graduated high school in 1989. At the beginning of the summer, I weighed a whopping 185 - and I'm only 5'1". I carry virtually all of it between my neck and hips. I have cut out all the cokes (which I drank a couple of a day), all the sweets, and have quit having all carb meals (like spaghetti with tomato sauce and garlic bread). I'm still eating out mostly because I hate to cook, but I'm making much wiser choices. I had sliced barbecue with a really large salad with low fat balsamic vinegarette dressing and water for lunch, and for dinner, I had chicken parmesan and spaghetti with tomato sauce and a salad with iced tea. Probably not my best day, but it seems to be working. I've started really leveling off on my loss though, so it's time to exercise. I'm about to be walking all over Washington DC for a week (apparently you have to walk pretty much everywhere), and then on the cruise, I almost always lose about 5 pounds. I feel better...my back hasn't been hurting, and I've managed to get off my blood pressure meds!!! woo hoo! Good luck to you guys - it really has made a difference in how I feel.

Talk to you later!

Congrats Yang. :) I bet just getting off the cokes alone did wonders.

Anytime my daughter wants to 'diet', she just lays off the cokes for 2 weeks - a month. Miracle. ha (My daughter is about a size 3, so she never gets 'big', but can tell when she's been drinking too much sodas.)

Alan is in a competition with a few guys at work, starting yesterday. It's going by the percentage lost...so, I'm watching my figure at the same time. (Hopefully, watching it shrink, not grow!) :uhoh3:

Good luck to everyone to become healthier! We all need to practice what we preach! :D If you already are 100% healthy, stay that way! ;)

Yang,

cutting out cokes is an excellent way to get rid of lots of empty calories! I did that also and lost a lot of weight, then I went for two years without drinking cokes...except for maybe one every 6 months...seriously, I just lost my desire for them.

Then I got pregnant...and I couldn't drink enough. I think one day I drank a whole six pack of cream soda....in an hour!!!!!!!!!!!

So here I am, trying to break myself of a really bad habit I've had for the last 9 months. and right now I really need caffeine to get all the things I need to get done...because the late night feedings are killing me some days!

I'll make it though, there are many women that have been done this road before me...Gosh, how do people do this with twins???? Yikes!

Specializes in Operating Room.

lol Spill....I guess it's not the right time to say both of my girls slept all night. haha

..Well, Kaylee did wake up the first few days, then we got hubby those breath-rite strips. She slept all night since. :lol2:

Kirsten's having a tonsillectomy today, so I'll be off AllNurses for part of the day. haa

Wow Fun--- I have a very well mannered baby- he doesn't fuss or cry, but he likes to stay up at night!

OT: anyone know how to get your newborn to sleep through the night?

Specializes in Emergency Department.

I used to mix a tiny bit of baby cereal in with the formula before the pre-bed feeding. Helped fill her tummy a bit more and stick to the ribs. I can't remember how old they can be for this though...you have to be careful that they don't choke on the thicker milk/cereal mixture. It wasn't a cure-all, but I didn't feel that it hurt any. It's different for all babies. Good luck!

Specializes in OR Internship starting in Jan!!.

I have no idea how to get a baby to sleep through the night, but I wish you luck!

Microsux is over -- woo!

I'm so sore! My new place is on the 3rd floor, and there are a LOT of steps. A huge reminder that I am soooo out of shape.

A pre-semester gathering sounds good to me, although my legs could use some sunshine -- hint hint. :D

Hope everyone is having a great summer!

Ya'll mind telling me if we have to renew our CPR cards once a year? Mine expires 8/08 but I believe we have to renew every year and show proff to the ECC health occupations office??

Thanks!

Specializes in Operating Room.

Yes, you have to renew it every year, even if it expires every 2 years.

I'm going to renew mine once again on the 29th, even though it doesn't expire until 9-08. Fun, fun, fun...

Specializes in Med/Surg, Tele.

yes you do have to renew once a year and show this to your instructors , they will ask for it every semester for clinicals. Another thing you have to do once a year is your TB test.

Specializes in Med/Surg/Tele.

oh really??? that's news to me. So, before the semester starts I need to have re-taken CPR???? ARGH!!!!!

Where is the reminder from the school????

Is it not amazing how much money they extract from us??? I'm in the wrong line of work.... :) I've got a schedule of CPR classes here for ECC and NLC so if anyone's interested, let me know. They're charging $65.00 plus making you buy a "pre-test" from the bookstore. I think I'll just go back to the olks I took it with last year as it was cheaper and they didn't force you to buy extras...

Thanks for answering my question!
