El Centro/NLC ADN Spring 2020

Published

Hi everyone!I

I wanted to make a group for all the people applying for the Spring 2020 program. Has anyone taken the HESI yet? If so, are there better tools than the book?

Hello. I was looking for information about this math exit exam we have to get a 100 on? So anyone in the program know how many questions and how doable this is? Also, in general how are the exit HESI exams?
-Thanks

For first semester you will have a 30 question math exam in the middle of the semester. you have 3 chances to make a 100 and if you don't, you will have an exit interview. For 2nd, 3rd and 4th semester the math test is on the first day of orientation and you have 3 chances to make a 100 or you will have an exit interview. Yes it's doable. Study math and rounding rules.

Thank you so much! You’re very helpful to this thread! Also, I looked at some of the math already and did a couple problems it seems as if asking as you know the formulas and conversions it’s simple. But do we get a conversions chart to use or we are expected to remember formulas?

Right, it can be very simple if you understand how to do the conversion and what the question is asking for. Because most math problems are in word format you have to pull relevant information from the question. You cannot use a conversion chart or formula chart on tests and there will not be one provided to you during testing

Ok well I’m gonna start studying now! Thanks again!

No problem. Good luck!

hello I had a question about the books for people already in the program. So do people really get cut out the program if you don't pay the $3000 before the first day of school?. I got with financial aid and I would get only $1000 for books and private loan money would come later on in the semesters. what do new students typically do?

@Tessyodidi123 I also have the same question. I asked a student at the train station and she basically told me we were on our own. She said a grant covered her books. Hopefully someone knows something. Also, I applied for financial aid, but they will not move forward until the program of study is changed (which the program said THEY would do). Hoping they add the clinical to the schedule and do so ASAP.

@babysplash hi again! As the time gets closer to my first semester, I’m getting so anxious! I see you’re in your third semester. Any advice for a first semester student and what to expect ?

Hey! Sure thing! Learn time management! If you're already good with using your time wisely, you're in a good place. It's a lot easier said than done though. Try to stay ahead with your assignments - complete quizzes, and practice skills ASAP (you will get access to a skills sheet for skills check offs). Stay organized - use a planner weekly or monthly to stay on track with assignments as get as ahead as possible. Study the topics you hate/don't understand FIRST and in depth - if you avoid it, you will never understand it and then subsequently miss any test questions about it. Use supplemental resources like Youtube, Saunders (NCLEX/HESI) prep booked and Elsevier HESI/NCLEX prep books - these will be helpful for the end of semester HESI a lot of my classmates used the red HESI book and said it helped. Most of these books come with online access that has practice questions. Also, if you have some extra cash - I recommend using yourbestgrade.com - they are HESI style questions that you can take and you can select the subjects like fundamentals, med/surg, the nursing process, pharmacology etc. Hope that helps!

Yes, this was very informative and helpful! I’m that student that loves to be ahead and study ahead so I don’t see that being a problem for me. But I will need to adjust to the style of the test. So do we get practice questions for lecture exam material ? Also do you have any old notes you would be willing to share? It’s ok if not I heard it’s helpful seeing other students notes. What is the exact name of the red HESI book?
