U.S.A. Texas

I will be applying to the fall 2018 semester at El Centro. I am excited but also nervous that I might not have enough points. How many points will everyone else be applying with?

Yes, I would submit everything thats health related. I just submitted mine tonight.

It seems all DCCCD nursing programs change the requirements quite often and don't update their websites. I was told by Jesse that most people have at least 29 points. I was trying to take all the pre-req's for all the programs so that I would hopefully get into one. I took patho over Christmas which ruined my trip back home because I had 16 weeks of class to do over 5 weeks. Then I just found out that Brookhaven will not accept HPRS courses, they have to be RNSG. I had already signed up for HPRS 1301-pharmacology for spring 2018 and had to drop it because there's no since in paying for a class that is only good for one program, especially when the competition to get in is so high. But I still won't get a full refund because I found out a week after classes started. I am 54 and I'll be finished with my 2nd year in May and still don't have enough points for El Centro and haven't finished all the pre-req's for Brookhaven & Mtn View. I'm beginning to wonder if I should try to get in the LVN program and go to work for a company that will pay for me to bridge to RN. At my age, I don't think I will ever see a full paycheck and will be paying off student loans even after I retire! Heads up everybody - I've read that the NLN PAX is fast replacing the HESI and TEAS for entrance to an RN program, maybe even LVN, and it includes physics. Although I haven't found any programs that actually require physics classes as a pre-req, I don't know how anyone will be able to pass it without taking a class. It seems that the requirements to get into any RN program are getting steeper and steeper but the pay does not increase. And for all the education they are requiring, nurses still do the same skills. So why do we need to know physics? It doesn't make any sense why there are three different nursing programs in the same school system and all of them have different requirements either. Mtn View gives extra points for the students who take certain pre-req's at Mtn View too. It makes my head swim. If you want to increase your chances of getting in somewhere, I would advise you to make weekly trips to each of the schools and make sure they haven't changed their requirements because they are all behind in posting these changes to their websites. I didn't find out El Centro required the Hepatitis A vaccine until last June which meant I couldn't apply for the Jan 2018 semester because both doses are required before you can apply. When I spoke with the dean to verify that it was required, because I had gotten the info from another student, she laughed and said that it had been a requirement for a couple of years but they just hadn't put it on the website. Something that costs me 9 months, possibly more, of my life, is not a laughing matter to me. It's there now because I made it a big issue. I feel like an animal jumping through ever changing hoops. I never in a million years thought it would be this difficult just to get into a program! If I hadn't already spent so much time and money I would change my major. Now I just feel screwed no matter what I do. And they really should do away with an ADN degree because they have rigged it so that you have to take so many classes toward your BSN that you might as well go ahead and get it. That must be collaboration between the community colleges and universities to make sure you go ahead and spend your money. It's a complete lie to say you can get your ADN in 3 years with only one year of pre-req's because it's definitely a minimum of 2. Maybe I'm just old but I had no idea it would take me 4.5 years to get an ADN. I suppose it's just like not being able to get a BSN in 4 years anymore. Yep, there is no doubt in my mind that the new path to education is a rigged system to keep everybody in debt most of their lives. Okay, I'm jumping off my soapbox now. Good luck to everyone with the patience to put up with all the BS political red tape!

what forms did you submit with your health records? Is it just the immunization release form that is attached to the fall 2018 instructions?

I turned in all my tigers for HEP A and B. My varicella titer, MMR titer. My flu shot paperwork and my TB test paperwork. I also submitted my CPR/BLS card and my physical. I also submitted a few extra papers that I'm sure Kenora could help you out with. There is like 3 other papers I believe where it asks you about your previous applications to Allied Nursing Programs before etc.

I honestly turned in my shot record and physical along with the form Kanora sent us in the e-mail. Sentry emailed back the next day my file was complete....

Hey there! I too will be applying for FALL of 2018. I have my cpr certification, up to date immunizations, hesi scores etc. I just want to double check that I have everything I need to apply. Whom could I contact for advising? Do I submit my immunizations to Sentry?

Calculators are available at all testing centers online only. Also, for all who are applying to El Centro for the Fall 2018 semester, I heard, from an advisor at Brookhaven, that the El Centro ADN program is on probation because a very large number of students failed the NCLEX and they might not be allowed to have any students for the next year. Those who've already in are safe but everybody else may need to apply to Brookhaven or Mountain View.

The deadline for the Fall 2018 semester is Jan 31. You should contact the Health Occupations office so they can go over all the requirements with you. But heads up, I heard from an advisor at Brookhaven that the El Centro ADN program is on probation because a very large number of students failed the NCLEX and they may not be allowed to accept any new students for the next year. You might need to apply to Brookhaven or Mountain view if you'd rather not wait but these two schools also have additional pre-req's such as chemistry, a drug calculation workshop, and critical thinking exam for Brookhaven, and speech and PE for Mountain View. Both of these schools require an interview if you make it past the initial points assessment, as well as a professional writing sample before you are formerly accepted into one of these programs. Good luck. Also, Neither of these schools require a Hepatitis A vaccine. Brookhaven does not require that you make 80 on each of the HESI A2 sections but I think Mountain View does. You should contact the respective schools for the details because it can get confusing.

I heard through an advisor at Brookhaven that El Centro is on probation because a lot of students failed the NCLEX and may not be allowed to add any new students for the next year. You might want to verify this and possibly think about applying to Brookhaven or Mountain View as well, just in case.

Thank you! El Centro doesn't have an advisor unfortunately but I submitted all my paper work. I did call and ask for more information. I'm just glad I ran into this post because I had no idea they changed some requirements. My goal right now is to get accepted into ANY program. I will be applying to all three: ECC, MVC & BHC. If I get accepted into more than one school, I will compare the schools before applying. I'm considering El Centro as my last choice if I do get accepted into other programs. Goodluck to everyone! Im applying with 37 pts (if HPRS 1204 is accepted).
