I will be applying to the fall 2018 semester at El Centro. I am excited but also nervous that I might not have enough points. How many points will everyone else be applying with?
Someone asked about class schedules. I just finished the 1st semester of El Centro's RN program. Your classes are picked by lottery so they're assigned to you basically. My schedule was Tuesdays clinical in Plano 6:30am to 5pm, Wednesday two lecture classes with a 30 min break in between and a lunch break during the second class 7:30am to 3pm. Fridays skills 7am to 5:30pm. Clinical is only 6 Tuesdays during the semester (also assigned to you). I also worked 12 hr shifts on my days off.
The nclex pass rate thing only applies to the RN program, not the LVN or bridge programs. They're very selective and even though it may only be suggested as a pre-req, it's really a requirement.
The trend in hospitals right now is to hire BSNs so it's to your benefit to get those BSN pre-reqs completed so you can jump into a one year BSN program immediately after graduation.
There's nothing wrong with getting into the LVN program and bridging over to ADN. LVNs typically get hired in nursing home, rehabilitation, doctor's offices, etc but rare in hospitals.
Bottom line is if you are determined to be a nurse, get there by whatever means necessary. If you are more set on getting into healthcare, look at other programs. Most of the other fields pay the same or more and are just as rewarding and in demand.
I got into the LVN program but I decided to decline. I wish everyone who accepted the best of luck and nothing but success, but I do not necessarily believe that we would have been just transitioned into the ADN program when they only accept a certain number of students each semester. Even if it was true, who knows what the contingencies would have been: (top 5% LVN students in the program who want to transition, etc)?
By this point, if a promise like that isn't put into writing by someone in charge and signed/dated, I won't believe it. I want to specifically work in a hospital environment so I didn't think the LVN route was the correct one for me. If you decide to go for it, I hope your semester goes very well! I'm currently completing some of the support courses/ BSN pre-reqs so I decided not to go for it.
I got accepted to the LVN program, so I will see you guys tomorrow. I decided to go for it because as I wait for the decision letters from the ADN programs, there's no guarantee I will be accepted. Atleast with the LVN I will have my foot in the door and make decent pay while get my higher degrees. I understand everyones situation is different and I wish everyone the best of luck in any of your endeavors!
