Ego vs. service

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Point 1.How much service, caring and unselfishness is involved in nursing vs. ego, power and influence?

Point 2. Has any one read the writings F. Nitzche, who reported that God is Dead and advocated the will to power, and the writings of the sayings J. Christ? ,who never wrote a thing, but is the most influencial human in the history of western civilization, and was crucified for the cause of the kingdom of god and service to ones neighbor?

I read both as pre-requistes for nursing, and these 2 humans relate to my first point regarding sacrifice vs. selfishness

Well said, Renee!

Fuldoer,oh so now we are pulling out our dictionarys eh?

Well we are talking about two different egos,Im refering to the one where people say "hes one an ego trip" or has a "big ego"

Who would debate that having self esteem is bad any way?

What was the question again??

Oh..ok...I think one must have a healthy ego in order to be a nurse. One must also be wiling to exert a certain amount of power (as is needed when directing staff, freaked out families and egocentric MD's) and influence is needed also when dealing with people in all the disciplines that help care for our pts.

One doesn't need to be self centered but rather DOES need to be well centered. I think a good nurse not only nourishes their work side but also their home life. Take care of your physical, spiritual (not necessarily religious) and sexual self.

Thats all I have to say.

Nitzche didnt appeal to me, I found more life enhancing material from THE ART OF WAR. And as far as ego and super ego this resides in all of us..
