Hey there, anyone here go to Edison in Ft. Myers or graduated from there nursing program? I am looking to apply for Fall 09! Thanks, Michelle
I know these posts are on the older side, but I will be applying for the evening program to start this fall. I will have 83 points in total upon application. W/ everyone having 90's on this thread, I'm getting nervous now!!!
To those in the eves program ---- do any of you work full time and have families?? I have a 2 year old, and a house and husband, and I am currently working full time. I am hoping to transfer to a part time position ASAP, but the way things are right now, I just feel lucky to have a job!! Anyway, I just wanted some feedback as to how hard it is to maintain a home life, work and do well in school in the eves program. I will be taking my Humanities and Micro this summer, which will leave only Human Growth and Dev as a "non-nursing" class... hopefully that will make it easier :)
Any input is much appreciated! Thanks!!
i'm graduating this april from the evening program. i have a kid, a house, two dogs, two cats, a husband and a full-time job. prioritize! prioritize! prioritize! read a paragraph or two at lunch or on a 15 min. break- write a bit of your paper instead of sorting socks. it's really not as hard as it seems in the beginning- it can be overwhelming in the beginning! even looking at the syllabus for this semester i was thinking "how am i supposed to do all this in three months!?" but i actually seem to have more free time then ever before. be creative and find the time to study- study groups are great! best of luck! i hope you get in!

congratulations on making it through :)
thank you for sharing your experience! glad to hear it can be done without everything at home falling apart!! just out of curiosity, how many points did you have when you applied?
thanks again!
"...how many points did you have when you applied?"
to be honest i don't really know... our system was slightly different i believe because our class had to take the act or sat not the hesi. also, from what i hear the bar has been raised every year- so the amount of points that i had would not necessarily have been enough for acceptance into the program the next year. the competition is getting fierce!
Goodluck to those that are applying! The evening program is pretty good - but it is a lot of work. Especially working full time.
The Summer session is actually very fast paced and a to of test and work. We are taking Med Surg and Pharm this semester. Pharm is a quiz every week and Med Surg is 7 test over 12 weeks. Each test has about 250 pages of reading. We also have a 12 hour clinical on the weekends. Plus we have like 4 of 5 papers due throughout the semesters, 2 care plans, and patient assignment sheets due weekly.
Right now we are halfway done and will graduate next Spring. We can complain, but you just gotta keep focused - find the time to do stuff - and keep looking ahead. It is doable when your dedicated. Also it helps when your not as concerned about your grades - and you focus on learning.
Yes, but luckily I have a very flexible work schedule. I actually have to request my days off next month by the 20th. Do you know if we have an orientation? Do you know the exact start day? Billy said he would mail us a packet. If you get it before the 20th, can you please post that information? Thanks. Can't wait to start!!!

Well - yea you are busier - lol. I am just in class 2 nights a week now - but still working full time. I also go to a lot of the Saturday practices and then group project stuff maybe once a week. It all just depends on when test and things are due.
I do not know what an IPA is. I just worked on the practice care plans with my group last night. So when I get back from lunch I will finish those up. lol. :)
Next semester I am in class still 2 nights a week. But we also add on the Saturday 12 hour clinicals every other Saturday. (Total of 4 CRN classes) I will be at Southwest for the first half then go to the new hospital when that opens up. I also have to see if Human Growth and Development is offered online and take that as well.
I was able to knock out my first set of volunteer hours already. So atleast I am keeping up with it all so far! Goodluck!!!
