i am having my first pregnancy and have some concerns

i am in week 10 of my pregnancy

if i was having a tubal pregnancy how would i know

can someone please shed some light on this for me so i can get a good night sleep

i am tired of freaking out :crying2:

I'm not at all an expert on ANYTHING GYN, but I see that you are sincerely concerned. Are you a nurse? The best I can do right now is offer a website. I'm sure some of the OB nurses here will be able to give better answers.

If you had a tubal pregnancy at TEN weeks,my friend you would KNOW; unless the pregnancy died some time ago, or you are unsure of your gestational dating. At this point, it is almost certain you would have unbearable, often, one-side pain...often referred up to the shoulder and neck region and maybe lady partsl bleeding, but not always........ so this brings me to ask:

what makes you suspect TUBAL pregnancy? If you do, are your providers doing serial BETA HCG levels to make sure they are rising appropriately? Has a translady partsl and/or abdominal ultrasound been done to determine a viable gestational sac IN UTERO???? If so, you really should not be in trouble, I would think.

BUT, hon if you have ANY real reason to suspect an ectopic pregnancy, any symptoms such as pain, bleeding or fever, or anything that really concerns you; you need to get yourself evaluated at an ER ASAP. As you know, tubal pregnancies can be dangerous or even life-threatening. Not knowing much about your personal history, this is all I can tell you as an OB nurse, and someone who suffered an ectopic loss very early on in pregnancy once. I do wish you the best. I'm am not a nurse yet, not even close.... my advice is call your Doctor... if you have any concerns or don't feel right... Call him or her...... Believe me he will understand... he deals with first time moms all the times!

I would think that at 10 weeks, if you had a tubal pregnancy you would be in a helluva lot of pain by now. I seriously don't think you should worry about that. Been reading too many of those darn pregnancy books that tell you every scary thing that could possibly happen, huh? I know how you feel, but everything is probably ok, and if you have been getting prenatal care, your doctor probably already would have caught it if your pregnancy wasn't where it should be, so to speak. Stress less, and save it for 3rd trimester, when the baby and your bladder will keep you up all night anyhow. ;) If you are really worried, go see your doctor.

I have had two ectopic pregnancies that have resulted in the removal of both fallopian tubes.

The first time was in my left tube. I was a week late on my period and got a positive pregnancy test. Within days, I started having brown spotting...I kept going back to the OB for blood tests and ultrasounds. No sac in my uterus, but continuous positive results. The doctor thought I was having a missed abortion. I had exploratory lap surgery and sure enough the pregnancy was in my tube. The tube was in bad shape, so out it went....

Infertility problems insued....Started seeing RE's.. Had my son via IVF...When he was 5 months old, I was late on my period again.. UH OH! I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive. I flipped knowing that it could very well be stuck in my right tube.

This time, instead of going back to my OB, I called my RE. He had me come into his office for an ultrasound. Sure enough the pregancy was in my right tube :(

I had emergency surgery right then and there (was taken down to the operating room STAT. The right tube was removed.

Long story short, if you were to ever have an ectopic pregnancy, 10 weeks along would never last! Your tubes aren't big enough for even 3 weeks gestation (which was what I had both times).

I had an ectopic pregnancy this past May. My CNM & I thought initially that I'd miscarried, but my HCG levels increased. After weekly HCG monitoring and 2 ultrasounds, I had emergency surgery at +7 weeks gestation...no rupturing, thank G-d.

Concernedmom, check with your MD or your CNM, if you have concerns about this. That's part of why they are there.

I hate those freakin' books! :(

I'll repeat what some of the other wonderful posters have said about the pain issue. Ectopic pregnancies are acute, emergency situations, and do cause quite a bit of excruciating pain.

Please speak with your health care provider about your concerns. I'm sure he/she would be happy to do whatever it takes to ease your fears.
