Hey guys, I just signed up for Info Lit through Penn Foster. I just wanted to put it out there that it is an option (easily approved by EC) and ALOT cheaper. Ill post the Information that Ive posted on another site below:
*First, get it approved by your EC advisor before you register.
*Contact Penn Foster College--your contact is Mary Beth at 1-800-233-0259 x 4016. She'll give you all the info you need. You will enroll in Eng 103-Info Literacy which is 1 credit and they charge $90/credit (no other fees involved--enrollment or proctor fees).
I signed up yesterday afternoon and received an email with my Login about a half hour ago. After logging in you can access your "Study Unit", which is a 116 page PDF file. This includes the study material plus 8 'Self-checks'. Honestly, I dont even think its worth printing out or having them send you a 'Book', you can just read it on the computer, but hey its in the mail already.
The "Exam" is 4 pages and 20 questions long, and you also do a "Info Lit. Graded Project" which is also 4 pages and 20 questions long where you access the Penn Foster Library site and find the answers.
In response to the submission of the exam and project--It states:
"When you feel confident that you have mastered the material in
this study unit, go to http://www.takeexamsonline.com and submit
your answers online. If you don't have access to the Internet,
you can phone in or mail in your exam. Submit your answers for
this examination as soon as you complete it. Do not wait until
another examination is ready." So yes, you can do it online at home OR you can mail/phone it in."
Just by skimming through I dont see that this will take me more than an hour or 2 to complete. So DEFINITELY a great alternative and easily approved by EC.
Hope this will help those of you who find EC as financially draining as I do. Good luck!
