Hi has anyone tried out eastwick college in nj or jersey college in teterboro for the RN program? I am trying to figure out which would be the best to go to?

For eastwick, there are no full time or part time options.

How many classes you need to take for the bridge generally depends on what pre-recs you have that depend on what the class load is like. For term 1 and 2, you may only have one core nursing class or you may have two additional courses to be completed through canvas depending on your pre-recs. This means you will likely only head to school one day week, sometimes two if your canvas courses want to see you in person.  For term 3, 4, 5, there are two core nursing courses, so these are two days a week in class. For the last term, 6,  there is one core nursing couse which is a capstone (no clinical). Then two possible canvas courses, depending on what you need. 

 

For term 3, 4, 5, are supposed to be with clinical so those are supposed to be long days. Usually starting from 8am - 7pm. I am not sure how it is going to shake out in the future as far as being on a clinical site or not. In the past, when we've stayed in the lab, we haven't ever had to stay that long but we always had to plan on being there for that lenght of time on those days.

@hadeskitten hi I just have two weeks left and  I'll be done with pharmacology and then moving on to term 3 with nursing concept 1 and nutrition. A little excited that I'm almost half way through the program bur nervous on what to except with this next term since there is a day that's pretty long.

The only clinicals that were done this passed year were in acute care only, if they went at all. The RNs were the only ones going when I was doing my LPN because of the pandemic. Clinical for the RN does not start Eastwick until you are in your 3rd term of your bridge program. 

None of the campus have contracts with hospitals. Also, fun fact, we do not learn how to draw blood. :) Not all campus are rated equal either but you may sign up for one and be sent to another if the numbers in class drop. 

How about I just tell you some facts? 

1. This college is very ATI based. We take at least one dosage calculation every term and at least one speciality test every term (this term I have 2 speciality test in one class...). If you aren't familiar with ATI, how to pull up dynamic quizzes etc you'll want to ask someone at the college how to do it or let them know you are not familiar and get familiar. I know some people have a love/hate relationship with ATI, but I am one of those that happens to love it. 

2. This isn't really a prepare you ahead of time place. You get your syllabus the day of the course and yes, as nursing students we are already behind when this happens. LOL. 

3. Things constantly change. Sometimes its the day of classes. Sometimes its the time of class. In person/online. Sometimes its your instructor... *cough*. There have been some classes that haven't run at all due to lack of instructors. To maintain homestatis, you have to be flexable... like a slinky. 

4. At one of the campus, there are several coffee places on the way in within minutes of campus. This a huge bonus in my book. 

5. Our uniforms leave little to be desired. Not that you'll actively have to wear it. Ugly beige top and bright white pants...  If you find someone who has prestine white pants all the time , follow them, for they are a magician. 

6. Our exit exams are done by ATI and we've taken similiar exams to those through out terms. It's not unfamiliar material and its not hard not pass. If you one are those that don't enjoy ATI, you will probably not love this. 

7. A lot of the administrative staff are very kind and helpful. 

8. There are some truly amazing instructors.  

9. You need to calculate your grades and keep track of them yourself at all times. Apple has a great app for this. I am sure samsung has one also that doesnt make you have to do all the math (because after dosage calc, do you really wanna do more?). This is important as there is no way that you can check on your grades until the term has already ended and the grades have been submitted. Teachers will generally tell you if you are in danger of failing but usually by that time, it's a hard struggle to make a come back.  Also, if your instructor said that they've given you points on an exam.. write it down. So if later if your grades are in danger, you can make sure that everything is accurate. If you do fail a course, unfortunately you won't know until they call on you on the break that you need to repeat it if you aren't keeping track. 

 

Honestly, this was not the nursing school experience that I wanted or envisioned for myself. Missing that hospital clinical compotent was really huge for me.  

That said, I feel like this has made me a better nurse because I've had to fill the gaps on my own. I've had push and drive myself out of my comfort zone. I've learned things for the sake of knowing them and not just knowing them enough to pass my clinical exam. :)

In patho class at eastwick where did they take question from. Cause they say ATI buts its not coming from there only 3 questions the most. Everyone is failing

Who do you have for Patho and what campus are you on? 

Sometimes the ATI questions are not from those you can do on adaptive quizzes (the quick search function on those also stinks as I am sure you are aware) or even the focused quzzies that they have on certain subjects. I think they have must have a certain quiz bank just for instructors because we had the same kind of thoughts but I am not 100 percent on that. 

What helped me most is doing the adaptive quizzes on the subject or quizzes that gave rationals. When I would get the my answer, I would look at each of the rationals for why it is right or wrong. A lot of times you will find information in those rationals that goes into detail that it does not go into anywhere in the ATI book or information that it just never mentions because ATI is also trusting that they are the only source that you are being taught from. 

Patho is one of those make or break courses. It is one of those that weeds out nursing students because usually by this point, there is still a lot. 

If your instructor will let you look over your exam to see where you went wrong, I would do that. Or if they go over a review of the questions that most people missed, I would make sure not to miss it.

I'm at the hackensack campus and I have mr. Puertollano he fillipino, I heard he's been there a long time he left and came back.

Teacher won't let us review anything, untill students started complaining and going to director of nursing. So he let us review one test and that was it. He doesn't do review and he tends to add things we didn't study. So weird. He's suppose to give points but it's a back and forth with him. I'm hoping to see what happens we have our third test for week 9. Hope it goes well. Thanks for replying to me and giving pointers

Do they call him Noli? Does he always ask the class "What.. else??" Noli left for awhile and then came back but I swore he came back to Ramsey Campus. If he is who I am thinking of, his tests are always really hard and it is very much like you said. He is a very very good clinical instructor tho.  

 Students *should* be able to review their exams or go over the big questions missed (providing there isn't students that haven't taken that exam). This should be done during their office hours, but as alums can tell you.. most professors won't keep office hours. You can take it up with the director and if she won't, then try Dr. G. OMG this is so crazy I just happened to check my email and saw this when I had clinical with him today ??? he's not Noli but people say he reminds them of him. from the way @Maria30 describes it I'm glad I don't have him for lecture. clinical with him is more than enough. my cohort is broken into three groups with different teachers and my group with him as instructor does the MOST work. I'm talking he has us there from 2p-6:30p doing 5pm med pass and of course he would quiz you before giving the meds. we have to submit a typed head to toe on our patient. and today at post conference he had us present our head to toe then prompted us to do care plans like on the spot. so glad we just have one more clinical in this term left ??
