Hi everyone! I just want to ask if you have any idea if EAMC is accepting applicants for staff nurse position as of now? or if they are accepting volunteer nurses?.. & if so, how do they do their recruitment? do you have to submit your documents on a drop box?

I was once a trainee in EAMC, yes there was a job opening a few only knew. I'm not sure if walk in applicants were entertained but I became part of the 2010 batch of trainee just because I knew someone. Actually, I am not from Quezon City it just so happen that a close friend of mine knew someone from the inside. This is yet another "Who you know and not what you know" application basis. If it wasn't for our "backer" we wouldn't be given the chance. I even remembered the secretary continuously informing us not to share the information to others because there wasn't really a job position available and if it wasn't for our backer she wouldn't take our applications. So we were given the long detailed list of requirements and passed it the day after we inquired and that was October 2009. We knew for a fact that we wouldn't be getting a call from EAMC soon so instead of wasting time over waiting, we decided to attend to different training as well as to engaged ourselves through volunteering in a public hospital. It was around April of 2011 when I was informed by my friend to go to EAMC for the schedule of exams as well as to get us a sort of permit slip, our gate pass towards the exam day. Yes, we both didn't get a call from EAMC, it was through our backer that we were informed. We were happy to be part of that long list of examiners and yes we were quite many. During the test day, we were give a hundred items questionnaire; I can't in full detail explain further the exam since we were informed that they never change the questionnaire. And just by looking at the questionnaire, you'll know that they are indeed telling the truth; it was old, brown with a crispy texture. The passing score was 60, passing would mean getting in a shorter list of applicants that would have to face yet another challenge; the interview. We we're given different dates but me and my friend were lucky enough to be placed on the same date. The interview consist of 2 parts, first is to the Nursing Supervisor and the second interview will be conducted by the Chief Nurse. For those who are not that familiar with EAMC, it is a semi-private hospital that caters to a lot of patients, they have a big number of bed capacities that even surpasses to the allotted beds that the hospital have. In short, it is a competitive hospital that is governed by powerful and knowledgeable administrators. When I got there just in time for the interview, I never pictured myself being interviewed by a somewhat strict and snobby interviewer because I was never familiar with EAMC as well as their staff. That's when I heard through the other interviewees on how barbaric (I'm sorry for the word but that was how I've heard their opinion) the supervisors are. And most of those opinions I've heard came from those interviewees who were already called and was able to finish the interview. That's when my heart doubles and even triples its beat. My friend was called first so I decided to move towards the door of the office. After a few minutes she went out with a not so good reaction in her face, this is bad I said to myself. I asked her right away about what happened and just as she was telling it in full details I was called. I felt like I was about to faint esp after entering the room and hearing how other supervisors criticizing the interviewees, and there she was in front of me asking me to have a seat. I can see it in her face how tiresome it is to interview a lot of nursing applicants and I wanted to of course stand out about to the average things she's been hearing the whole day. I guess I was lucky; I kept smiling while answering every question she throws at me and was able to explain that procedures she wanted me to explain and with that she gave me a good grade and smiled. So we were both sent to the office of the Chief Nurse and Assistant Chief Nurse, to cut the story short we both passed. The chief Nurse as well as the assistant chief nurse are both kind, there was no pressuring type of questions but more of why we were there, why we chose nursing and why we chose EAMC. It was after 3 days I guess that we were asked to call to the office to verify if we pass and as we both call we were told the dates of orientation. We were still many in the group in all, but were divided to different ward. My friend and I were assigned to NICU. Two weeks of training was all worth my time and effort (since I'm from Manila and I had to travel all the way to QC for my 5:30am call time). It was difficult yes since as a trainee you have to somehow impress you Nurse Buddy every day so that she can give you good grades and good feedbacks. We were being evaluated every day by our Nurse Buddy who daily changes varying to the specific section of the NICU Ward that you are assigned. BY the end of the week, which is Friday, all daily grades and feedbacks are gathered and summarized by the Head Nurse then passing it to the Nursing Supervisor of the NICU who will also summarize and interpret the final evaluation grade and then submitted to the NURSING SUPERVISOR of the entire NICU, OB, DR, OR. Yes, it was complicated super. But the sad thing about it is that we were only given 2 weeks of OJT and that's all you will ever get. It is a little bit harder to establish rapport and impress them with the only limited time you have. But overall it's a wonderful experience, I gained a lot of knowledge from it and I was happy to be part of EAMC.

BTW, in case you're curious, my grades were good as well my feedbacks but until now I haven't receive any call from them. They said that they will call us as soon as there is a vacant position available. I wasn't able to update my application there since I don't personally know the backer who got us in and until now everyone from our group didn't receive a call from EAMC. And yes I'm still jobless.

By any means, do you know your backer's position? And which month did you undergo OJT?

Yes, 2 weeks unpaid. The examination is part of the process to become one.

This is disappointing. :( I will start my volunteer duty on EAMC soon and I don't know what my luck will be.

It can be disappointing everywhere. Only those with brave heart can keep on with tides. Anyway, being a volunteer at EAMC can be a plus towards employment. The head of the nurse volunteers is eager for whom she believed has great potentials to be hired BUT it can always be beaten by the "anak ng diyos". 20-40% of nurses are walk-in applicants and without backers. Some are from really reputable schools and some have undergone volunteer program for long duration.

Tip: do great on your volunteer position, make friends, and create a harmonious relationship with NTO.

P.S. You may not be hired at EAMC but some have used their volunteer certificates to acquire jobs in the mid-east.

Thank you shampoostar! I hope they can see my potential there. Really? The volunteer certificates can be used in the mid-east? I thought volunteer works were not applicable for jobs.

Maybe you're on the Nov-Dec batch? Call them up so you'd no, sorry I have no idea about the sched. Lol.
