Duties of an LPN in a Urology office

Published

I have never worked in urology before and im actually not to long out of school, does anyone know what the duties/responsibilities of a urology Lpn are?

Neither have I, but you are gonna be cathing, cathing, cathing, and did I say cathing unhappy old guys for one.

Specializes in Ambulatory (Urgent care) & Home Health.

Vital signs, Catheters, urodynamics, bladder scans and a ton of U/A's. I did it as a Medical assistant Ithink there was 1 LVN at the time but she did what we did. Come to find out MA's arent suppose to do catheters in CA but their still doing them.

There should be a job description for you that will spell out what is expected of you. And of course, some amount of orientation. Prepping for exams, cathing male and female patients, bladder scanning, VS, and more!

Best wishes!

That's a great way to describe patients,"unhappy old guys". Ever ask why they were unhappy.Did you consider that

maybe just maybe they would consider it appropriate to have a male do that. Would you be unhappy if you went to your

female gyn and a young male was there to cath you or your young daughter! Many of these old guys went to war so you

could enjoy the freedoms our constitution offers. Freedom, privacy to name a few. Maybe they should get some respect,

These old guys,or maybe it would be better for you if the patients were all "young happy guys"!

Well I was an LPN in a Urology office. We did just about everything! It was soo much fun to be honest. Every day brought a new adventure. You will get to know your patients very well. Just know that no matter how uncomfortable YOU are think about being the patient. Believe me you will have some GREAT stories to tell. You will learn a ton. I did everything from assisting in surgery, pre op, post op, labs, bladder scans, V/S, health histories, etc. It was a heck of a lot more than justing caths. You do a TON of patient education as well. I would honestly consider going back if another position opened up. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck! :nurse:

Thanks for the info! I'm in Cali and and finally may have a prospective job. The office looks so lively! I am going to learn a lot if I receive this position. I was wondering if you or anyone knew the pay scale of a lvn in a urology clinic setting? It is right next to the hospital. Thanks!!
