Duquesne Second Degree Nursing Class of 2016

Published

Hey everybody, I recently just got the news that I was accepted into Duquesne's Second Degree Nursing program starting in the Fall 2015 semester! Was just curious to see if there was anyone else out there interested in reaching out to other accepted students!

Well, thanks for the knowledge. I will keep that in consideration before choosing a program. To my surprise, Duquesne was actually pretty quick my decision (around 2 weeks) and I am considering if I want to attend or not. The school seems reputable, but the students do not seem appreciate the new curriculum. Does anyone know what is the NCLEX passing rate and the placement rate for jobs?

Are there any veterans who have been accepted into the program for the '16 Class yet? I have been corresponding with the nursing & veteran recruiters since early February and FINALLY got all of application materials in on 12 March (took forever because one of my 4 transcripts didn't arrive until over 3 weeks after I had it mailed)...I got an email on 19 March confirming that my completed application was being sent to the admissions committee for review, and I am now just waiting. The recruiters have been wonderful in communicating with me and taking my military experience into consideration, I am just hoping the admissions committee will think similarly.

If there are any veterans who have been accepted, I would appreciate some insight into your experience and the VBSN grant that the school offers...thanks!

Hi, I was accepted and am contemplating if I should do the program or not. Does your friend like it because I have read some mixed reviews? Any pros/cons if you can?

And for those of you waiting to hear back. I applied end of February/early March (can't remember). My acceptance letter was dated March 20th, so around 3-4 weeks or so I would guess to find out.

I just got the news...I'm in! Ahhhh so thrilled! Can't wait to meet you all!

I've also been accepted to the Duquesne ABSN program as well as the RMU ABSN program. Initially, i was excited, but now i'm slightly terrified after reading some of the comments regarding the program here on the allnurses forums.

I also found the Duquesnes ABSN class of 2015 group on facebook; has the class of 2016 started a similar group at this point?

I have seen a combo of both, as well as rebuttals to the negative perspectives. I would not let that deter you. I was wondering the same about the facebook group! If not I think it would be a great idea. I currently live in Georgia and will not be able to visit the campus or meet potential roommates until early August; it would be great to put names with faces beforehand.

I have heard the same. I have been talking to students who are part of the current batch abs they said it's a hard curriculum but doable. Where do you plan on living ?

I have no idea where I will be living yet...you?

Same here! I am going to Pitt this weekend. I know that Duquesne offers on campus housing for students attending the second degree program. I want to be as close to the campus as possible. Since I don't have a car

I would love to stay in student housing (depending on the cost..) but I have a cat and I have a feeling that may be a problem :(. You know in the information packet it says that it is mandatory that students have a car :/ for getting to all of the different hospitals and health care agencies. I would happily let you carpool with me to clinicals if we could somehow coordinate schedules and whatnot.

Are you currently close to Pittsburgh? I live in GA right now and have never been to Pittsburgh...I won't be able to see the campus or surrounding areas until August...maybe I could help you out with a car if you can help me locate inexpensive, convenient housing lol!

I am in jersey right now. I have never been to Pittsburgh before but when I do go visit, I'll find out more info on housing n share it with you. Thank you so much for leading the help to car pool. I'll try helping you with your housing situation as much as possible. Since I live in jersey there isn't much I can do. But I'll try
