What is the dumbest thing a student/newbie ever said or did??

I ask because I'm starting nursing school in May and want to know what NOT to do!:banghead:

I thought it could be entertaining as well if not for those of us that are saying "I don't get it...why was that dumb??" than for you more experienced nurses to get a chuckle!

Also if there is anything that a student did that isn't exactly dumb just a BIG no-no please please share!

Thx!

We have an oncologist who ordered Miconazole suppository PO for a pt with thrush post chemo. The pt told us it was not working when she came to the ED. Apparently the nursing home nurse gave it rectally instead of by mouth.

I didn't know you could give it PO. I would have called to clarify the order instead of just giving it.

I didnot know either. But then again I am not a nurse so there are lots of things I dont know. I just feel like that would be nasty for the patient. Is it the same spository that is used for a yeast infection?

When I was a student I was watched like a hawk when giving suppositories because the year before my preceptor had a student insert one still wrapped in the foil. It was only when the pt complained of pain 2 hours later that it was discovered.
