Duke University ABSN Fall 2018

Published

I just wanted to start a thread for prospective students hoping to start Duke's ABSN program in the Fall of 2018! Feel free to leave any questions or background info!

I feel like the longer they wait, the greater chance that we'll receive decisions rather than Duke Day invites

I never heard back from the admissions department. A previous post said they had spoken with admissions and was told Duke Day invites would not be sent out until end of March. They didn't specify if those invites came with decisions or not. We could still be waiting until the end of next week unfortunately. At this point, I've just stopped checking haha.

It's kind of messed up. I guess they can do whatever they desire but this timeline is tough on students. They are building up the momentum to release the decisions and they know it! There is no way they are still making decisions. They must have them all completed. I'm guessing. But we can't do much we just gotta wait.

They have done this before. Most likely they had too many applicants, thus they will likely release decisions and those which are admitted will be invited to Duke days.

I have been looking through past threads trying to find how long the wait could be, but couldn't find anything past March 14th.

Yeah, the last year that they just sent out decisions about was in 2016 and the received their decisions on March 14.

I underatand that they may have had an influx in applicants which requires more tome, but it would be helpful to recieve some type of communication about the timeline. Even though Duke is my first choice, I'm conflicted on whether or not I should Put a deposit down at another school as a backup plan.

I found the same thing and was really hoping that we would have heard something by this past Friday. Now we are approaching 2:00 p.m. on March 19 and still nothing.

At this point I would not expect to hear anything until early April.

That is true. If they are still considering Duke Day invites first and everything's pushed back, still a chance we won't get decisions until April like previous years. I understand everyone's frustrations and we are all in the same boat!

I think the most frustrating part has been lack of communication. Every other school I applied to at least gave a rough idea of when we would hear re: decisions. I get that their program is a fall start rather than a summer start, but lots of students apply to a mix (I know I did!) and making a decision is difficult when you don't have any inkling of when you'll hear back. A lot of schools' deadlines have either already passed or are rapidly approaching...

I'm frustrated as well because I had to commit to another school by March 1st to reserve my spot and if I get into Duke, which is my first choice, then I just lost money. Also, you would think they would give us plenty of notice on when Duke Days is for those of us who work! At this point, I'm not sure if I'll be able to get my shift covered if I'm working that day.

For most or all of us this is a second degree program so for us to make these decisions without hearing back at all is a huge problem! We can't make accurate decisions without knowing the results of our application. But patience is improving each day with this wait. So that is a plus!
