  1. Hi, I recently graduated from an accelerated BSN program in December 2019. I have previous degrees and worked for several years in clinical research before deciding to go back to school to pursue nursing. My husband and I are planning to relocate this spring to somewhere in the Denver-area suburbs from the East Coast. I have been looking for jobs but so many of the hospital postings ask for 6 months of nursing experience, which I obviously don't have as a new grad. I've applied to a couple of the new grad residency programs, and will put in more new grad residency applications once they open in February and April/May. Does anyone have any other recommendations? Should I be applying for those jobs that ask for 6 months of experience anyway? My goal is to become an oncology nurse but I am happy to work Med/Surg to get experience too, I just haven't had luck finding anything so far. Do any of the hospitals actually hire new grads outside of a new grad residency position? Thanks in advance!

    Duke University ABSN Fall 2018

I got in, but already accepted my spot at U Penn and decided not to change gears, especially since Duke hasn't' released financial aid info yet. Penn and Duke were my top 2 choices, so I consider myself lucky to have the choice, even if I didn't know I had the choice until weeks later haha. Congrats and best of luck to all! Thanks for making the anxiety-inducing wait for communication a little bit better :)
  3. My ABSN program for students with a previous degree starts in a couple of months- as my orientation date approaches, the excitement builds but so does the anxiety! so to all the seasoned nurses and nursing students out there: What's one thing you wish you knew when you started nursing school? Thanks :)

    Duke University ABSN Fall 2018

I think the most frustrating part has been lack of communication. Every other school I applied to at least gave a rough idea of when we would hear re: decisions. I get that their program is a fall start rather than a summer start, but lots of students apply to a mix (I know I did!) and making a decision is difficult when you don't have any inkling of when you'll hear back. A lot of schools' deadlines have either already passed or are rapidly approaching...

    Nothing yet :/
  7. Hi everyone! I recently accepted an offer to an Accelerated BSN program at my top choice school that starts in June. I am super excited, but also very nervous- several years back after I had completed my MS in another field and was working in clinical trials, my mom and husband both had serious medical issues and while seeking therapy, I was diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, and depression. I've always been very functional with it, and haven't been in therapy for several years. I take a very low dose of an SSRI and I otherwise manage the anxiety with exercise and breathing. all of that said, while I am SUPER passionate about finally learning to treat patients after having been on the research side of things for years, I admit I'm scared at the prospect of starting nursing school. Have any of you gone through nursing school / entered the profession with an anxiety disorder? Do you have any advice? Can it be done? thanks! :)

    Duke University ABSN Fall 2018

Nothing. I emailed them last week to ask if there was an anticipated timeline re: decisions, because I have other offers I have to respond to by early to mid March, but I haven't heard anything back. Their (lack of) communication has been frustrating compared to most of my other programs that I applied to. Hopefully someone else has heard something.

Nothing yet (I'm in Ohio where it's 6pm already, but I'm trying to keep calm since people said in previous years it came out pretty late in the evening Denver-time)

    UC Denver Traditional Program 2018

Thank you! :) It's possible - were you in an interview group with 2 people who were involved in clinical research? Regardless, good luck!! :) All of the fellow applicants I met during the visit were SO nice!

    UC Denver Traditional Program 2018

Torture! :-p I heard from one of my other schools last week (Penn, which is one of my top choices, along with Colorado and Duke) and I'm relieved/excited I got in there. But I'm dying to know re: Colorado. Unfortunately it doesn't sound like Duke will let me know a decision before I have to decide on Penn or Colorado if I'm lucky enough to get in there too, so really I guess it boils down to Penn and Colorado being my top 2 :-p I wish these things were on timelines that were more synced up so that you don't have to decide on a school before you've heard back from others. Good luck to everyone this week!

    Duke University ABSN Fall 2018

I was accepted at Penn, Colorado is supposed to notify this week, and then I'm still waiting on the rest of my schools (Drexel, Capital U in Ohio, Oregon Health Sciences) including Duke. I had to withdraw my app from UNC after looking at the matriculation tab on the website and seeing how early their program starts -- I'm finishing off one prereq for a different program this semester and I would have less than a week to finish finals and relocate, and that's just too insane. Penn, Colorado, and Duke are my top 3 choices -The thought of not knowing Duke's decision before I have to make a decision on my other offer(s?) really stinks, because hubby and I are trying to figure out what city will be best for us to move to, and I know he was interested in the Raleigh/Durham area as one of our potential options. So I'm curious to hear people's thoughts on Duke's ABSN program compared to other programs as well.

I still have no email, and just the checklist. Argh, I wonder what that means haha. I'm trying to just give it time, but it's hard! edit: I got my email, I got in! :-p
