Duke ABSN Fall 2017

U.S.A. North Carolina

Hi guys! I haven't seen a thread yet for Duke's ABSN Fall 2017 yet, so just thought I'd get it started! I'm excited to be attending the open house later in September and look forward to meeting some of you there.

Hi Msjg2017,

I'm just curious why you would want to retake AP if you have already been accepted into the Fall 2017 cohort ?

^^ You have to receive a B- or higher in the course to enter the program.

Hey guys! I don't know about everyone's status, but today I was sent an e-mail with all of the financial aid information. It's not quite populating on my DukeHub though, is anyone else having the same issue?

I haven't received any financial aid information yet. On the applicant portal, it still says "Financial Aid information not ready for release". Oh gosh I hope I'm not the only one who didn't get anything yet.

I actually just called them and they told me that Financial Aid will be sent out by email this coming Friday night.

Hi Kbsway, I too rec'd my financial aid pkg on the 12th. I emailed the Financial aid dept to find out about the NCFELS loan and the Merit Scholarship. The NCFELS loans will be awarded in May and the Merit Scholarship will be decided upon by the faculty early next week. All who applied for the Scholarship will receive an email regarding status.

I guess they are sending out financial aid all different days? Ugh I'm worried now that I didn't do something right and that I won't get one.

It seems as if they send out information at all different times. I think they would have contacted you if you had not completed the forms correctly. My FAFSA is pretty straight forward. Unfortunately I do not qualify for a lot as I'm married with 2 kids and my husband and I both work. Maybe they sent out the easiest ones first? If I don't receive the Merit scholarship (longshot anyway) I probably won't go. It's just so expensive for Nursing degree.

I hope so. I am in the same position as you, I really REALLY want to go to Duke but it is so expensive. That's why I'm freaking out so much about the aid information. That sucks, I would think that with two kids it'd be the opposite, but yeah I guess if your looking at combined salaries it takes the need for aid down :(

Well, financial aid is up on the portal. I got some aid, but still not enough for what I really need. I was surprised because I made under the federal poverty line. I just don't know what it takes to get enough help these days. Anyone get the full need based award? Also, it's not showing anything for Fall of 2018, I wonder if we will get anything for that term? It's such a hard decision to make, I hate this stress so much.

same here, all loan, no grant money at all. Can make it work, given future expected income, but still... ARGG. Does the School of Nursing ABSN have a completely different way of handling financial aid than the regular Duke FA for other undergraduate students? If I were a regular Duke undergrad, per FAFSA, etc. I would pay much less than half the COA.

I got mine also. I fell below the poverty line also and got less than what I need. I will wait for the answer on the merit scholarship and if I don't get it, I will probably end up at the State school I applied to. It's like 40k cheaper. Duke is just so much money, it's so hard to justify the price. I honestly thought I would have gotten more, I really wonder to what it takes to get that 60k.
