Hi all!
Just wanted to start a thread for the people applying to duke for the fall of 2012. I am super excited/nervous to be filling out the application! I know that there are others out there feeling the same way. If anybody is willing to comment I would love to hear from some people who have applied, accepted or denied, or applying right now, or even going to apply in the future. :)

Congrats on a great day! I went on Monday and really enjoyed it as well....and I met moggsy, which was really fun! I just read some older posts and saw that you are in your 40s thinking of another career....I am also, and also live in Texas. I'd love to compare notes some time. I'm in Dallas, and volunteering at Children's Medical Center which I love. That would be fun to both end up at Duke!
Hi J! :) Yes, I'm hanging in there, ha ha. I wish we were hearing something this week... but I guess the week of the 13th is pretty early. UNC is the other school I applied to, and supposedly we don't hear from them until mid-March (for a May start)! I meant to ask you - are you just waiting on Duke or did you apply to other schools too? The waiting game is always so fun!
Congrats!! That is such a relief to know you are in somewhere. Duke is my #1 choice, so I probably wouldn't wait on UNC... but I'm not trying to jinx anything, lol (knocking on wood). I applied to the two-year BSN at UNC, so it is a little different - it would be like doing two more years of undergrad which I'm not super excited about ha ha, but I will make it work either way (praying that I at least get into one of them). UNC doesn't interview or anything, so they just keep you hanging on...
ETA - are you leaning towards one school over the other?
jpw - your message came through fine, and I replied :)
Hope everyone's hanging in there....after a lot of thinking and discussion with my husband, Duke is now my first choice. Loved the school, loved the area, met great people.
Unfortunately, deciding what I really want has only served to increase my anxiety and impatience. Man, it's gonna be a long week!

the day was really good....my interview went well, the group activity was fine, and everyone was really helpful about answering questions. I liked the other students I met too. And although a lot of people I know are not fans of Durham, I really liked it - a little sleepy, yes, but we found great restaurants, bars, parks, art galleries, and neighborhoods. The sketchy parts were just regular sketchy neighborhoods, nothing to get excited about. I could definitely picture living in Durham, and we're setting off to check out Raleigh and Chapel Hill today.
So for me it comes down to this: do I want an ABSN program or a direct entry MSN? I was really set on the direct MSN, but now I'm beginning to wonder if an ABSN makes more sense, and then reevaluate whether I want to work or continue straight to MSN once I have some clinical experience under my belt. Assuming I have multiple school options in the first place!
