I am about to graduate from nursing school and I was arrested for drinking and driving 4 years ago. I was told that I may not be able to sit for the NCLEX because of this. I would hate to think I wasted all this time and money and effort to get to this point for nothing. I would love to hear from anyone that may have gone through something similar or know someone who has. I had a hard time getting into the school because of this but they let me in after proving that the arrest was not drug related. I was told then that there was no guarantee that I would be allowed to sit for the boards (Pennsylvania)but now that graduation time is here, it is all that I can think about, I'm not even excited about graduating because I am so worried.

I know how defeated you must feel. I got a DUI when I was in my RN upgrade program back in '97. I wrote a letter to the BON in regards to the conviction and subsequent counselling. They evaluated my case and I was allowed to sit for boards. Yes, it was beyond devastating, but in the end, made me all the wiser.
Best of luck. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about it further.
Good luck and try to get your mind off this. You have contacted the board, you have almost completed nursing school, you are doing everything you are supposed to be doing, -you are on your way to becoming a nurse. It will be ok.
Now come here and let me give you a big hug.

In my state there is a web site for "The Department of Professional Regulation" - this is the dept that licences professionals here. You can go online and view monthly disciplinary reports. Your state might have this info online too. I agree that they might just start you out with a probation. Sorry that this one incident has followed you this far into your life. Keep your head up.
