Drug test question

Published

My drug test is scheduled for Monday, and I feel a cold coming on. Usually when this happens, I just take Echinacea and call it a day, but I know that many herbs can make a drug test come back positive and I didn't know if Echinacea was one of them or not. Is it safe to take before a drug test?

Is it worth the risk?

I use my gym's steam room when I'm feeling a little run down. Getting my body temp elevated usually kicks whatever was brewing right out of me, without having to take drugs or herbs. Just a thought.

It's not worth the risk...but if I find out that there isn't any risk, I'll do it.

Not sure, but why not just wait until after your drug test if you're worried?

I'm getting sick now...if I wait, there won't be much point in taking it.

Drug tests are pretty good. There isn't too much that can throw them off. Even with poppy seeds, you would need to eat a ton of them to get a positive result.

If it were a matter of taking an over-the-counter remedy like Echinacea to get back a false positive, you can imagine that those drugs would be flying off the shelves in an attempt to hide elicit behavior!

I have never heard of echinacea causing a false positive result. When I had my nursing orientation, they told us to tell the specimen collector all of the over-the-counter and prescription medicines we were taking before we took the test. I don't imagine you have anything to worry about, but just in case I would be upfront with the testing official and let them know all of the supplements you take. I take a lot of vitamins and herbal supplements so I had quite a list to give to the lab tech.
