not 100% necessary, but you'll probably do better on the final if you get it.

medical terminology, 3rd edition, isbn 0-7216-9553-1. davi-ellen chabner

this book was worth it for the professor i had - the end of chapter quizzes were the only studying i did for med term. (it's part of health promotion.)

health promotion throughout the lifespan, 5th edition, isbn 0-323-01484-4,

edelman & mandle

i shared this and hardly used it. should be in the library if you need it.

clinical nursing skills & techniques, 4th edition, isbn 0-8151-4305-2,

i bought it 1st quarter and used it as a reference for a couple of papers later on. mostly, i was glad i had it on my bookshelf at 3am when i was writing said papers.

staight a's in pediatric nursing, with disc, 2nd ed. isbn 1-58255-697-0,

this isn't my favorite supplemental series, i borrowed one but didn't really like it. you could always go to barnes & nobel and see what you think of it.

essentials of maternity nursing, 2007, isbn 0-7817-5220-5. susan ricci.

you'll need it to do your weekly clinical homework, but make sure it's the current edition - a new one came out while i was taking the class.

you'll probably get different opinions on what to buy, but those are my thoughts. sharing books was nice, but remember that when in doubt, s/he who pays gets custody, so make sure you have similar study habits and plan accordingly!

I was also accepted to the ACE program for Spring 2010. I just got back from vacation and almost forgot to send my transcript showing my prerequisites. Will this be a big deal if it is a couple of days past Jan. 15th, as I highly doubt it's going to arrive by tomorrow.

Another question, because I cannot get a hold of Peggy Breslin, when does the program start, exactly? I thought it was April, but I see a lot of you saying March. I found a place in Philadelphia to live, but I need to make arrangements about when I need to move in. If someone could help me out with a response to the exact start date, I'd really appreciate it.

Jason

AugustRain thx for the advice for the books! I'm hoping to get a good deal on them and get a head start on collecting my books for the program.

AdamsMorgan30, congrats on yor acceptance and attendance! The first day of class is Monday, March 29,2010 and I'm not to sure about late transcripts but I called and they did inform me that they were due tomorrow January 15th. I almost forgot myself but I live just blocks from 's main campus and will just hand deliver mine tomorrow. You should definitely just call the admissions office and see what they say.

And I almost forgot, I know alot of people posted wondering about the compliance info we needed to take care of before entering the program. I received all that info in the mail today, and the letter was dated January 12th so if you haven't already got it, be on the look out for your letter shortly. In any event it doesn't seem bad...

Aijah, the compliance letter does require us to get an FBI Electronic Fingerprint Record Search, I'm sure sure if this is what you were worrying about in your post. You will see what I am referring to when you get your letter, but the letter states that more info can be found on drexelcompliance.com. Hope this helps.

AugustRain, I also received a contract to sign regarding the Hesi Examination. Is this something new? Or were you required to sign and submit this also? Just didn't expect this...

Our class didn't sign this, but I think it's a good idea for everyone to be on the same page from day one. I'm pretty sure hiddencat's class did get this contract, so she could probably answer any questions you have. Is there something in particular about it that you're uncomfortable with?

Acrawl,

I have diligently been doing my homework regarding these programs before making my decision and in the process and have watched a colleague's wife go through this program. She is a highly intelligent woman who did not pass the test by .5. Because of this, she was required to go through remediation and pay thousands of dollars that she and her husband were not prepared to spend. From what she said, many students pushed back at so it is a good idea at that point for the university to have future students sign a contract outlining their requirements. All institutions have their own agenda and it is important for students to do all the homework up front. I have decided this program is not for me because of the extra stress associated with the exit test. Jeff also uses this test, but if you fail to get their required score (which is lower than Drexel) they require you to do a 6 week remediation course at no charge and then you are cleared to sit for the NCLEX, so I feel much more comfortable with this requirement, and the pass rate of NCLEX is marginally different. If you have questions, I suggest you go directly to the school, requirements are often revised with incoming classes. Good luck, you

seem like you are going to be a wonderful nurse.

AugustRain, there's nothing I'm specifically uncomfortable with it's just that is was a little unexpected I guess. I mean I read all the posts about HESI and how awful it has made some peoples' lives and I guess I just got a little nervous when I got the letter...But ultimately there's no turning back for me at this point.lol. So it's cool...just thought I'd ask if anyone else got it too.

Loveshoes, thanks for the advice and support...and as I just mentioned to AugustRain I don't know anyone directly affected but I definitely have read some posts. Time wasn't really on my side to do much research, I was laid off last Dec. got into CCP immediately in Jan, took a years worth of pre-reqs, and got accepted to to start this March so here I am...It does suck that it' s a big determining factor in receiving a nursing degree but I'm just going to stay positive :D.Thanksfor the good luck wishes and good luck to as wellat Jeff! And before you know it we will both be great nurses:yeah:

Hi Everyone,

I will be joining a lot of you in the Spring 2010 ACE class. I just stumbled across this forum today and I have found it extremely helpful! Augustrain: Wow, thank you for taking the time to pass on your knowledge regarding the specifics of the program. Your advice is an enormous help! There have been several posts where you have suggested study guides - are there 1 or 2 specific books that you would recommend to begin with? Also, how did you go about forming a study group? I have not participated in study groups in the past - did you find studying in that format to be more effective? I have the next two months fairly free and I feel like I should start reviewing material - is there anything that you suggest I begin to look over?

Thanks!

Acrawl, I received that letter as well and I was shocked. I did not know they were going to make us sign a contract. Im a little nervous but I know we will make it through this program if we stay on track and stay focus. I also received a letter in the mail stating that orientation is on March 22, 2010 for those who did not receive there letters yet. I also received a letter with the list of classes we will be taking. Does anyone know which professor we will have or who they go about picking the professor you will get.
