U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

Hi,

I will be attending University's ACE program in the Fall of 2009. I just wanted to see if anyone else on here is in that class...and the kind of information they have on financial aid for this program and how they are preparing for the fall.

Thanks!

Andrea

Hi Everyone,

I will also be attending the ACE prgm at this upcoming fall. I too have a had a difficult time obtaining additional info & getting my questions answered. I hope this isn't the way it will be once the program actually starts. I am really excited but also nervous after reading other people's post.....

Oh, yea I def need to compare financial aid info... I read that the amount I believed I needed to pay for the 11 mos (approx 18K) is not for the entire program? Did anyone hear that? Apparently, its only for 2 quarters....

Hi Karla,

I've spoken to a couple current ACE students and they said everything will be about 32k. Plus room and board. It's no joke. I got accepted but Id rather go to a 1.5 year / semester program, enjoy it, and pay less. I'm actually going to the info session next week to find out more in person. Also, I've heard that there are some faculty that don't care and some who really do. Since its a class of 120, you can imagine the student to faculty ratio. It just depends on whether or not your willing to take that jump of expediting your BSN in 11 months for all that money and stress.

Who are you trying to contact? I emailed a question today and got a response back within 4 minutes. And I generally get quick answers via email.

HIDDENCAT: I was originallly accepted in October for Sp09 entry, but I had to take a couple prereqs. I was going to take them at the undergrad univ online and get the credit but needed to know what they were. I looked online to confirm which prereqs I needed but called/emailed to get confirmation. I tried to reach the woman who evaluates transcripts, P. Breslin who was out of the office for the first couple weeks of November. This wasn't on her voicemail and she didn't have a backup. I missed deadlines to register for online class because apparently no one else could confirm the classes I still needed. I ended up getting in contact w/ T Hughes who has been extremely helpful. She made sure that I received my evaluation and I ended up needing 2 more classes.Anyway, I paid my deposit to start in the Fall.

HIDDENCAT/KARLA, I have had similar problems but worse. I am in Canada. They do not call back Canadians or International students even though I have tried P.Breslins line 4 x's. The 1800 number doesn't pick up and never returns messages. M.Wong tries to help, but it takes her over 2 weeks and I never fully get the info I need for prereq's and what school to take them at. P.Breslin scolded me for contacting her, bothering her faculty and basically called me stupid and stalker and still didn't give me any guidance. ALl the keep saying is to go to WES or ICE and have transcripts evaluated...what if I do the prereq's but they are not the correct courses or places???? I pay $200 each time for evaluation = $400 and still no prereq's and I fall behind another semester so I have to reapply again. PRIVATE SCHOOLS SUCK. THEY ARE DISORGANIZED MONEY GRUBBING RUDE AND UNLAWFUL PLACES.

JRGUZMAN, could you please tell me which school you are speaking of? Thank you.

TCM1: I'm talking about , which seems like a decent school. though not everyone is made for Drexel (and I'm starting to think I'm one of them). I'm currently trying to get an extension on my Drexel acceptance and wait for the status of other schools. From my own investigation, it SEEMS like they're accepting all of these students (at least 120) and pushing them through the program like a herd and whoevers left standing can take the NCLEX. My statements are subjective because I've never attended drexel. I've just heard one to many -ve things. For further investigation I suggest going to their facebook page. It has some insight from current and past students. Good Luck.

See, I came from that page, and decided that they are not reliable sources. They can't seem to read and answer a simple question, even if it's rephrased to be more direct. The group title also mentions those "surviving" the program, so I'm under the impression that they're not doing so well.

Regardless, I've gotten answers to questions here about the program. I don't intend to be part of those that fail/drop out. I think a good portion of people are those that don't really know what nursing school entails (I've read these forums for a bit). I haven't seen 's requirements to be any different from other programs (from reading these forums).

I am not under the impression that it's easy. I also believe Drexel's administration is poor. BUT, I think it's doable, as plenty of people (most, actually) _do_ graduate from the program. I don't think it is a program for people that want to be spoon-fed. I hope to post more once I start and graduate, though!

Loner: I totally feel where your coming from. I was a bit discouraged after reading other people's posts and such but then I thought about it. I feel like I am cut from a different cloth than alot of people. If you are used to carrying heavy/difficult course loans and working under pressure & time constraints, I don't think you will have a problem. I paid my deposit and will begin in September and I too, do not plan on being one of those dropping/failing out. Its just not an option for me. I look forward to meeting you and making it through until graduation!

One thing I worry about the program is GPA. I'm sure I can pass the program but at what cost? I plan to become a NP and it would be great to have a competitive GPA. To each his/her own.

Will you have alot of other comittments during the 11 mos? I think you can manage if your primary focus is school. I want to apply for the NP track, but I was confused at somthing. I know that you can apply in the 3rd quarter and take core classes after receiving licensure. But if you have to get a certain number of full-time work before starting the other classes, do they hold your spot until you complete them? How does that work?

I plan on applying to the Ace Program for Fall 2010. My question is this, is it possible to get student loans to cover the salary I am currently making in order to quit and go to school.

Thanks for any info!
