Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09
DREXEL SUCKS! I just got a letter stating they denied me even though my application hasn't even been completed! What a sorry joke of a school. There is a lady that has been personally helping me and even told me that it takes 4-6 weeks for results (I got them in 2)--and honestly, if they have no clue how to run their own admissions process, what else do they not know? HAHAAA!!

What is out there in admin/mgmt if you don't like blood/gore/death?
Thank you all! I'm a TCM practitioner by trade with 9 yrs schooling. I suppose a few more won't kill me. As for bodily fluids--its mainly blood and dying. I feel faint at the thought of it and dying (I've had a couple damaging experiences through my childhood with family members and how they died--one in my bedroom, and the other a tragic death...one of my close friends, another classmate and both in car accidents. In any case, I just know that I am good at administration. I noticed this when a professor jotted down 20 of my ideas and became the clinical director after I left while improving the clinic and optimizing our treatments plans; moreover, I am a leader type and enjoy managing things.

For all pre-nursing students
Thank you for being the devil's advocate and showing us an alternative to the hype out there or perhaps the doom and gloom depending on which one people are feeding into these days...

Do any of you feel that you will not like a career in nursing?
Mmmmm, I just posted a question along the same lines. I know that I dislike blood and gore and death/dying, but I also know that I love helping and healing people and am looking for other avenues in nursing as a career--but what are they? can yoiu get them without going back to school to do your masters etc.? I already have 9 yrs of educ. and 4 of them are medical related (chinese medicine/wester and eastern medicine combined--we worked on cadavers, in the lab the whole bit and I volunteered in hospitals...).

ANY Options in Management or Admin?
Hello There, Any options for those who are thinking of becoming nurses but cannot handle blood, gore, poo, vomit, death/dying? This may seem like a stupid question, but I have volunteered in hospitals and worked with elderly and realized this is not for me. I do like nursing as a profession and wonder how I can get in another niche that doesn't involve the above directly or constantly? (EG: without doing advanced schooling....anesthetics, practitioners etc.) Thanks!

Best Accelerated BSN Program under 14 months --OPINIONS WANTED
HI AGAIN MBA2RN: THANK YOU AGAIN!! I don't think my last message got through. Thank you for your clear and concise answers. What is odd is that Kaiser wanted 10% interest for their scholarship. My story is complicated but I am a Reg. Acup. and didn't make the money or have the security I needed and instead felt like I was administrative assist. rather than a practitioner who studied for 4 yrs and gave $100k in total for everything. I couldn't stay on in S. California where I studied but tried really hard for a year to find a job. My school in S. Calif. was probably going to offer me a Research Assistant job, but I would have to do that forever and didn't think that they would allow me to work in clinic since it was a program that was still starting out. NAFTA doesn't list Acupuncture. I returned to BC (Van) and worked a bit, but not much money. I'm 32 and single, and not sure what to do as a 2nd career that is quick for getting the education and lots of jobs...not like Acup. They don't even have anything listed in Workopolis or Craigslist!! I'm pretty good with Advertising, Communications, Marketing and HR. I was going to study HR but had a whiplash accident the day before going to Toronto, ON to study for 8 mths. I also heard from my co-op instructor that all his contacts were laid off so he didn't think he could get us jobs in the fall!! I guess it was not meant to be. Not sure what career path to take...nursing is not my first choice by any means--I don't like blood and hate the smell of poo--but I can deal with it as I have done working on cadavers for 1 yr etc. BTW Did you get an MBA and then leave after a few years due to corp. stress? How old are you and is this your 2nd career? What city are you planning to work in and who gives you that visa to work--I assume you have to get an H-1 visa which lasts 6 yrs? Would you mind sending me your lawyers contact if you took that route? (The reason I ask is because I have never met anyone in a similar situation and couldn't find a lawyer for myself that knew how to deal with Acupuncturists...perm. residency-->green card etc. etc. Sorry for all the questions.

Best Accelerated BSN Program under 14 months --OPINIONS WANTED
DEAR MBA2RN, THANK YOU :) Here is an older post that no one has really spoken too...you are the first!! YAY! what are your thoughts here? _______________________________________________________________ Hello, I was interested in taking an accelerated bsn/msn program in the USA in the near future, and it occurred to me to ask if... 1. Any Canadians out there doing the same and where? 2. Any Canadians who have completed their studies and if and where they are working? 3. ...Has anyone looked for or been given an opportunity to have their schooling paid by a hospital in return to work? 4. Was getting a position in the USA easy, and how did you go about it? 5. Acupuncturists --any of you out there? Thank you!

Advice on how to handle extreme anxiety
Walking and meditation help for me--I have heard of biofeedback as very helpful but never tried it. Chammomile tea and perhaps check yoiur diet--too much caffeine and sugar only increase it.

HELP / OPINIONS REQUESTED--BEST 2nd Degree Accel. BSN program in US?
Hello,:bowingpur I would like opinions on your views of what schools across the USA are the best accelerated programs for BSN (2nd DEGREE ONLY)? I cannot decide which school to attend and don't have the money at this time to visit the schools. I'm from Canada. I am thinking that these areas should help determine which school is best... 1. Total Costs --low amount 2. Number of Clinical hours --high amount 3. Instructor knowledge and capability / care --high 4. Private or Public (either) 5. International Students --experience with them 6. Technology 7. Clinical rotations --varied and high 8. On campus living space 9. Job Club or help after grad to find job 10. NCLEX score-- high 11. Attrition rate --low 12. Students drop out rate ---low 13. Number of months to complete for most students etc. Thanks! TCM1:bugeyes:

Can't get these knots outta my neck
Ususally these knots happen when we sit for too long and there is not enough circulation of blood. I find mild exercise and mild stretching helped me when I was a student...Acupuncture and TDP heat lamp help me now more plus the mild exercise and I am going through whiplash!

Drexel University-ACE Program Fall '09
HIDDENCAT/KARLA, I have had similar problems but worse. I am in Canada. They do not call back Canadians or International students even though I have tried P.Breslins line 4 x's. The 1800 number doesn't pick up and never returns messages. M.Wong tries to help, but it takes her over 2 weeks and I never fully get the info I need for prereq's and what school to take them at. P.Breslin scolded me for contacting her, bothering her faculty and basically called me stupid and stalker and still didn't give me any guidance. ALl the keep saying is to go to WES or ICE and have transcripts evaluated...what if I do the prereq's but they are not the correct courses or places???? I pay $200 each time for evaluation = $400 and still no prereq's and I fall behind another semester so I have to reapply again. PRIVATE SCHOOLS SUCK. THEY ARE DISORGANIZED MONEY GRUBBING RUDE AND UNLAWFUL PLACES.
