Nursing Students General Students

Long time lurker, first time poster here. Changing careers from nonprofit fundraising to nursing.

I've been interested in health and medicine since my first boyfriend (a med student) gave me The House of God. Kind of dated with its attitudes toward women, but I loved it. Since then I've read every medical & nursing memoir I could find--three times.

One day, I realized that instead of reading about this stuff, I could go back to school. :roll

I'm going into U's accelerated BSN program this fall. I'm looking for anyone with first or second-hand knowledge of the program. I have a bunch of questions & can't contain my excitement. We did have an info session in March, but I did not meet any current students so I didn't get the inside scoop. Besides I don't feel comfortable asking certain questions (eg. are the uniforms hideous? or are there any bad classes?)

Btw I love this forum. I don't know any other nursing students, so you have been my virtual community. Thanks.

Hey, for all of those who are in the ace program, or applied to it- I noticed on their site it says -* All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better before matriculating into the ACE program...

Is this another way of saying you need to have all the pre-reqs done before APPLYING to the program??

Yep, you need to have them all done in order to start the program. But you can apply before you finishing them...

I did not read your post right before :) My bad.

NO! You can apply to the program and be accepted "provisionally". This means that you have to have all of your pre-reqs done before you start, but you certainly do not have to complete them before you start.

ahhh- thank you both! Well I have been reading tons of posts and it looks like these programs are filling up fast, waiting lists for years, and super high GPAs. It's all scaring me. 3 days ago I was happy because I narrowed my list down to 4 schools (and thought I had a decent chance of getting into at least 2).. but now, my list has gone up to 8!

What do you guys think: (all accelerated programs) , Pitt, Villanova, Jefferson, Johns Hopkins, UMaryland, Duquesne & DeSales

Good luck, I started out applying to 1 school and by the end, I applied to 6. I got into 3.

Is changing its acceptance criteria? When I applied last year, they said I needed to just meet the 3.0 in my last 60 credits because my overall GPA was below a 3.0. I think they take you as long as you meet the criteria. The problem becomes the wait list. I had applied for fall 04 but got into the class starting March 05.

Drexel will accept on a first come first serve basis. So with a 3.0 you'll get in, but you may have to wait a year or longer to start. I ended up waiting 1.5 years to start.

I just wanted to welcome you and say "good luck"!!!

Thanks for the welcome!

and of course I have yet another question about ...

Under pre-reqs to enter the program I states that you need 3 credits of Computer Science. Now I remember when I was first looking at the ACE website maybe 6-8 months ago.. somewhere on the site ( no idea where it is now) it said that you could substitute 3 cr of Speech instead of taking comp-sci.... anyone know about this? I'm positive that I saw this on Drexel's website.. but like I said I can't find it now... Do any of you know of anyone that got in the program with speech rather than comp sci??

Thanks!

Best thing to do is send the program coordinator an email and ask. I'm sure there are all kinds of substitutions they can make. When I was applying I had really good response from them via email.
