Nursing Students General Students

Long time lurker, first time poster here. Changing careers from nonprofit fundraising to nursing.

I've been interested in health and medicine since my first boyfriend (a med student) gave me The House of God. Kind of dated with its attitudes toward women, but I loved it. Since then I've read every medical & nursing memoir I could find--three times.

One day, I realized that instead of reading about this stuff, I could go back to school. :roll

I'm going into U's accelerated BSN program this fall. I'm looking for anyone with first or second-hand knowledge of the program. I have a bunch of questions & can't contain my excitement. We did have an info session in March, but I did not meet any current students so I didn't get the inside scoop. Besides I don't feel comfortable asking certain questions (eg. are the uniforms hideous? or are there any bad classes?)

Btw I love this forum. I don't know any other nursing students, so you have been my virtual community. Thanks.

I can't help you out about , but I'd still like to welcome you.:)

You aren't the only one here of course, who made the switch, so you won't be alone. You'll find an amazing amount of support here.

Good luck!

:D

Hello! Welcome to the board! I wish you the best of luck with your schooling!

gator

Ps. ALL nursing school uniforms are usually hideous! It comes with the territory. We all get used to it!

Welcome, welcome! :D

Good luck choosing btw & that other program. For me, I only applied to one program. Drexel made it easy to apply-- no fee, no letters of rec, no personal statement. It worries me how easy it was to get in. That means there will likely be a high attrition rate because the admissions committee only weeded based on GPA, not suitability for nursing.

Both programs are probably comparable in academics. After all, everyone takes the same licensing exam. Cost, location, atmosphere may vary widely.

Drexel is a dream because it is convenient, short duration, and they want me. The down sides I hear is the clinicals are organized in a stupid way, the program is new and has problems, and Drexel hasn't built a reputation in training nurses (but Hahneman has).

You can't lose-- go with your gut. Let me know what happens.

Drexel's clinicals are organized a little differently than other schools because it is such a short program. The first quarter clinical is only one day a week. In the second and third quarters, you will have class 2 days a week and clinicals the rest of the week, but the clinicals are for 3 different classes and are all at different hospitals. In the fourth quarter you will have 2 different clinicals. Anyone else wanting info. on the ACE program, feel free to PM me.

Specializes in SRNA.

Hi Caroline - I start the ACE in March. Looks like we'll be taking all of our classes together. A friend that graduates in September tells me that we'll all be like family after spending so much time together. Not sure if that is a good thing or not! ;-)

I was accepted to Hahnemann about two years ago, but I had to delay my start date because I had trouble getting all of my prereqs finished on time. (I have my last final tonight! Yay!!) Anyway, while I was waiting, Drexel bought Hahnemann.

What do you guys think? Is the reputation lost or will Drexel simply assume Hahnemann's reputation. I'm a little concerned.

Thats weird I looked at 's site and the page where you apply does have a supplemental materials section of forms I assumed they needed including for recommendations, etc... I completely missed that for ACE you did not need to do those things. So seriously I am shocked- those aren't required??? Thanks!
